Sessauan-Shidran War
Turn 1

The Sessauan-Shidran War started out over a minor dispute over the territorial claim of a small island in the western Centroppen Sea. A small volcanic island, the Sessauans scouted the island and discovered that it's lush forests surrounding its active volcano would be an adequate source of lumber for further development of the Sessauan Grand Flotte. However, the Sessauans also discovered a new land mass and decided to colonize that instead, calling it New Mille. Weeks later, they returned to the original island and discovered that the Guild Union of Shidrus had already colonized the island. The Sessauan naval officer landed and instructed the halflings to leave, but they refused.

The war thus is primarily about the control of the single island, now called the Hrothar Lumber Colony by the Guild Union. The aim of the Sessauans is to retake the Hrothar Lumber Colony than sue for peace, although these goals may change as the war possibly grows in size.

NOTES
-- This war is currently between the Empire of Mille Sessau (Humans), Kingdom of Ezria (Avians), and the Guild Union of Shidrus (Halflings).
-- The Empire of Mille Sessau and Kingdom of Ezria are allied. The Kingdom of Ezria however has committed only a certain amount of naval vessels to the war that will fight under their own banner.
-- The Empire of Mille Sessau knows where the Hrothar Lumber Colony is, but not where Lashid Colony or Shidrus is located.
-- The Guild Union of Shidrus knows where New Mille is, but not where the homelands of Mille Sessau are located.

POST ORDER

-- 1. Guild Union of Shidrus : The Empire has an allotted use of 100% of their available forces, although they are somewhat scattered within the kingdom. All of their soldiers must be accounted for within the opening post and given orders (if any). "Not a bad wall." Commander Damid admitted. "Not bad at all." The newly built wooden wall around Lashid separated the town into two. First, the wall surrounded the entire town, reaching a few feet out into the water on either side of the harbor. Inside that wall was another line of tall, wooden columns which rang along the inside of the main harbor street, separating the inner town from the exposed docks. Anyone who landed inside the docks would have to cross the exposed main street to reach the inner wall, and would still be cut off from the rest of the town.

The walls couldn't be mounted of course, but he had his Wardens patrolling the docks and gates, and had placed lookouts on the tallest buildings. They'd been patrolling and watching ever since Lashid was up, but now they had genuine chokepoints to defend.

All four warships were now at dock - the two biremes had just returned from a quick check-up of the remaining halflings at Hrothar, and the two triremes had just barely been finished. Lashid wasn't quite secure, but Damid had no intention of leaving anything to chance.

((Not mentioning Tinian's fleet since they're en-route. Just note that they're heading for Lashid, not Hrothar))

Open Ocean,
Southeast of Mille Sessau

The Grand Flotte had set sail, and with it the Ezrian Royal Navy. The seas were adequate for sailing weather and Admiral Aqués Rousset knew exactly where he was headed. The Thomàs was the lead vessel, it's huge white sails billowing in the crosswinds and acting as the vanguard with the two transports in the center and subsequent combat vessels along the flanks. The Ezrian Royal Navy was told to follow behind, although Admiral Aqués recommended that Avian sailors take to the skies to watch for any incoming halfling vessels. The Grand Flotte was untested, but Aqués felt that the genuine superiority of the Sessauan people as well as the involvement of the Avian navy would seal victory for Mille Sessau.

" Leftenant! " Rousset shouted. He turned to look for the leftenant.

" Oui, monsieur? " The embellished officer saluted as he stepped up the small staircase to stand onto the rear of the ship where the rudder was.

" Prepare my cot, wake me when we arrive or if the Ezrians discover anything of note. " The leftenant responded by turning, running down the deck past the long row of rowers and disappeared beneath deck. Within a half hour Admiral Rousset was below deck sound asleep with the waves at his ears.

The steady thump of drums telling the rowers to keep a decent pace was constant. Standing on the quarterdeck, Admiral Caranir stared across the vast stretches of the sea. The Ezrian Navy was behind the vanguard of the Sessauan force. Caranir had already taken the step of sending his avian crew members out to patrol the skies. The massive birds would at least be good for something the Elf thought. The four Ezrian biremes the Coronne, Shurmanda, Matrija, and Agrina (named after Ezrian cities) kept their tightly packed net around the Colossus and the Victory. The smaller escort ships were the triremes first line of defense. Though Caranir knew if they ran across a large fleet with anything more than biremes, then the Ezrian Navy was going to encounter difficulties. The Ezrian scouts would hunt for the sight of land or ships.

Sessauan-Shidran War
Turn 2

Current Weather: Calm ocean, Fair winds from the South
Time: Sunset

Fair winds from the south allowed the Sussauan-Ezria fleet to maintain a steady pace with the aid of rowers during the daylight hours. The Leftenant woke the Admiral Rousset up reporting with a French accent, “Monsieur, the winds have been decent to us. We’ll arrive by tomorrow evening if nothing goes amiss.”

“Excellent, did the Ezrians discover anything?” the Admiral requested information as he wiped the sleep out of his eyes the soft light ebbing out from the latern that the Leftenant held making it hard to see momentarily.

“Non Monsieur. They reported nothing the whole day.” The Leftenant replied leaving the covered lantern along with information regarding speed and heading behind for the Admiral. The Leftenant was then dismissed and went to his own cot to sleep as a different subbordainate was in charge during the night. Placing it on a hook above a desk with maps of the area Rousset read the scribbled chicken writting of the leftenant plotting their current course and heading on the map. About a day till the volcanic island as the man had informed. Blowing out the candel within the lantern the Admiral went back to sleep.

NOTES:
-- The Sessauan-Ezria Navy’s will arrive at Hrothar Lumber Colony next mod mark
-- The Shindran Navy reinforcements commanded by Admrial Tinian will arrive in Lashid Colony on Day 4 (Three more mod marks)

Human/Avian Notes:

Lashid Colony

"Going for your next patrol, captain?"

Captain Nire paused in his directions and glanced behind him. "Ah, yes Commander. We're alternating patrols now. We're sailing down over to the strait and then up around the northern end of the island towards Hrothan."

"I see, you're planning to use the wind to rest your oarsmen on the way to Hrothan." Damid observed. "Clever."

"Thank you sir. . . are you here to see us off, or do you have any additional orders?"

"No orders, when should I expect you back?"

"Well you'll see us pass to the north on our way back from the strait. We should return from Hrothan in a couple days - Hey! Second rope ties to the third spar! - I don't expect any trouble in this weather."

------------------------------
- The Bireme Dark Wave sets off on patrol. It will sail south to the strait, then north around Lashid Colony and on to Hrothan before returning.

Galley, Thomàs

" Land, monsieur! " A soldier near the fore of the craft shouted, and Admiral Rousset beckoned him to the bridge with a gentle wave of his hand. Rousset unfurled the map and laid it across the table, he indicated to the pair of islands with his aged hand.

" There are two islands, I surmise you saw this one? " Rousset asked.

" I think so. I am not sure, monsieur. We will know when we get closer, oui? "

" Indeed we will, back to the front sailor. " The sailor acknowledged and ran back to the front of the ship. The rowers had been resting due to the accompanying winds that carried the Sessauan-Ezrian Fleet toward the islands. The sun had already began to set and Rousset noted that they would probably arrive at the island at about morning the next day. Rousset turned to one of the few settled Avian sailors and spoke to him.

" Tell your Elven captain we will continue sailing throughout the night. We will approach the island from the north and land along it's western shores. I would ask your captain to send one of his triremes around the island to the East to scout for any enemy force. We know where their small settlement is, but we know not if they have a large naval force available. "

Trireme, Victory
Attached to the Sessauan Fleet

Caranir nodded to the Avian as he landed rather gracefully infront of him, requesting that the Ezrian's send ships to scout to the East for an enemy force. While the Elf didn't like taking orders, especially from a human he agreed with the course of action.

'' Run up the signal flags! Order the Colossus to circle round to the East to scout for the enemy. '' Even if the Ezrian's didn't know exactly whom the enemy was.

The trireme Colossus broke ranks with the protective net, the sound of drums could be heard as the rowers picked up the pace to propel the large vessel through the ocean.

Sessauan-Shidran War
Turn 2

Current Weather: Calm ocean, Fair winds from the South
Time: Sunset

The Dark Wave of the Guild Union of Shidrus captained by Nire was one of the two vessals within the Halflings budding empire that claimed the Centroppen Seas as their own. Since the founding of Lashid Colony, Captain Nire and his crew had maintained the Guild Union's presence in those waters with the aide of their sisters ship still at the docks.

After spending half a day rowing the small halfling vessle south to the straight the crew let out the sails allowing the winds from the south coming through the narrow straight to speed their journey north. As the crew tied down lines and went about their tasks near sunset the small person in the crows nest informed, "We're passing Lashid!" to those on deck.

The crew waved and shouted towards their friends and families residing within the colonies newly constructed wooden walls. The journey to Hrothar Colony would be a two day trip. One to travel from Lashid to arrive there and another day to report their findings back to Lashid. After a few moments of allowing his crew the pleasure of wishing their family and friends good bye even though they couldn't hear them Captain Nire shouted, ordering, "Get back to work, you've got plenty to do before the night crew takes over!" The ship would continue sailing into the night towards Hrothar with a skeleton crew manning the ship so the rest could rest up for tomorrow.

NOTES:
-- The Sessauan-Ezria Navy’s will arrive at Hrothar Lumber Colony tomorrow morning; they'll find the colony abandoned
-- The Shindran Navy reinforcements commanded by Admrial Tinian will arrive in Lashid Colony on Day 4 (Two more mod marks)
-- Bireme Dark Wave will be within sight of Hrothar Colony the evening of Day 3 (evening of next mod mark)

Human/Avian Notes:
-- Supply ships within each of their navy’s can continue supplying them for six more mod marks.
-- Resupply is possible from unsettled or unoccupied islands.
-- The Trireme Collossus breaks from the Avian Navy

Halflings Notes:
-- Supply ships within their navy under Admiral Tinian's command can continue supplying them for four more mod marks.
-- Lashid Colony ground forces do not need resupply.
-- Lashid Colony naval forces have six mod marks of supplies should they leave port. While in port supplies do not diminish.
-- Lashid Colony docks can resupply up to five friendly ships per mod mark.

Centroppen Sea

Highshield Tinian watched the calm, dark sea that stretched out ahead of his fleet. The gentle rocking of the waves causing his ship to shift and heave as it streaked forward. Most of the crew had already turned in, relying on their vessel's large sails to catch the wind as they advanced. Tinian wasn't one for sentimentality, that was for younger halflings like Mishlan, but the blackness of the ocean seemed to foreshadow things to come. In his pocket he kept a letter from the supreme commander of the armed forces, and that letter stated that Shidrus was to make no compromises. What that entailed would depend on these strange people's reaction.

Shrugging, he turned and pushed the door behind him open, retiring to his small cabin for the night. They would reach Lashid soon enough.

((Just a note: there are also two triremes already stationed at Lashid, in addition to the other Bireme. They were converted from transports))

Open Ocean,

Galley, Thomàs

" Flag the two transports up, I want them to make landfall right there on that beachead. The troops will march south around the mountain and take the halfling settlement on the other side. We will sail along the eastern side of the island to rendevouz with the Ezrian ship and sink any vessels that are loitering in the area. "

The two Leftenants in front of Admiral Rousset nodded and ran off to the side of the ship. They removed small nautical flags and began to wave them in a myriad of different patterns. The two transports disengaged from the convoy and began to move directly south to the beach of the island. Because of the strong southern wind, the transports had to resort to their rowers. Within minutes the two transports had sludged into the shallow waters and the planks were dropped and from each huge berth a total of nine hundred men-at-arms; Sessauan commoners with chain mail tunics, broadswords at their hilts and shields on their backs dismounted from one transport. The other transport held nine hundred chevaliers ; minor Sessauan nobility who donned plate mail and wielded large falchions and full face helmets. They gathered in a small arrangement on the beach, a half dozen men-at-arms and a single chevalier remaining at the beached transports before Baron Dechamps, captain of the chevaliers ordered his soldiers into a rigid six-man column and began to march south, into the forest toward the lumber colony.

The remaining Sessauan ships continued on, the Galley Thomàs led the way. The fleet (with the Ezrians behind them) would follow the island around until it reached the small settlement of the Hrothar Lumber Colony.

Ezrian Navy

The Trireme Colossus hunted for any prey that it might encounter on it's patrol, though it was more than capable of beating a hasty retreat if it encountered more than it could chew. Meanwhile, the Ezrian Navy watched over the landing of the Sessauan troops, scouts carefully scouring the skies for any sign of Halfling vessels that could appear on the horizon to interrupt the landing. When the troops had landed, and the ships had begun moving the Ezrian fleet continued on it's way. Fully prepared to reinforce the Sessauan naval force.

Sessauan-Shidran War
Turn 3

Current Weather: Calm ocean, Fair winds from the South
Time: Noon

Baron Dechamps of the Mille Sessau and the chevaliers under his command marched through the woods heading south. What started off as a rigid six man column became a disorganized mob of men in the dense woods. Although predators were still on the island the amount of noise made by so many armed and armored men stumbling through the woods was enough to warn off even the feircest beast.

As noon came they finally stumbled, quite literally, out of the woods arriving at the Hrothar Lumber Colony. The navy of both Mile Sessau and the Kingdom of Ezria were already anchored in the bay waiting for the all clear that Baron Dechamps was suppose to give. As more and more of the chevaliers exited the woods they began to take up their formation again, though it wasn't as nice as before the men tired from the oppressing heat of the island as well as their short but hard trek through the woods.

As they approached the colonies settlement cautiously the chevaliers couldn't help but notice the smaller buildings then normal for humans along with the uncommon quite accompaning a settlement of this size. The most they encountered were animals eating some left supplies, that upon seeing the humans fled back into the forest. When Baron Dechamps arrive he ordered his second in command to inform the navy. Using the same small nautical flags the chevalier waved then in a different pattern informing the ships all was clear.

Time: Before Sunset

The Bireme Dark Wave was approaching Hrothar Colony. Luckily from the far winds the had made good time and would be arriving before sunset. That's when the halflings on board saw the large fleet of ships arrayed at the harbor of Hrothgar. The were two clear distinct flags among the fleet at harbor. One know to be something similar to the Milles Sessau but the other flag was of and unknown kingdom, one The Union of Shidrus had not encountered before. Using a telescope the Captain noticed the following ships:

2 Transports
5 Biremes
2 Triremes
and 1 Large Galley clearly bigger then the rest.

Unfortunately Captain Nire failed to notice the whole fleet of the combined navy of Milles Sessau and the Kingdom of Ezria. While the Milles Sessau force was forcused on the Hrothar Colony the Avian's ships kept a look out for the halflings ships to their rear. That's when the crews of the Trireme Colossus, the Biremes Coronne, and Shurmanda

At the harbor

NOTES:
-- The Sessauan-Ezria Navy’s have arrived at Hrothar Lumber Colony; they find the colony abandoned
-- The Shindran Navy reinforcements commanded by Admrial Tinian will arrive in Lashid Colony on Day 4 (Next mod mark)
-- Bireme Dark Wave has been sighted and has sighted the Trireme Colossus in the evening

Human/Avian Notes:
-- Supply ships within each of their navy’s can continue supplying them for five more mod marks.
-- Resupply is possible from unsettled or unoccupied islands.
-- The Trireme Collossus is are the rear of the navy; first to spot the Bireme Dark Wave along with the Birmes' Coronne and Shurmanda from the Avian Navy

Halflings Notes:
-- Supply ships within their navy under Admiral Tinian's command can continue supplying them for three more mod marks.
-- Lashid Colony ground forces do not need resupply.
-- Lashid Colony naval forces have six mod marks of supplies should they leave port. While in port supplies do not diminish.
-- Lashid Colony docks can resupply up to five friendly ships per mod mark.
-- Bireme Dark Wave sights most of the Sessauan-Ezria Navy anchored at Hrothar Lumber Colony; Should Dark Wave turn around and head back to Lashid Colony they'll arrive at sunset tomorrow (Next mod Mark)

"Well that tears it." Captain Nire complained into his telescope. If he had been a less cultured man he might have sworn. "Dark Wave! One-eighty about! Now!" The expert oarsmen leaned into their turn, causing a sudden jerk as the ship spun around in a perfect half-circle and then abruptly ceased. "Ahead full!"

The rapid tat-tat of a drum set the pace as the Bireme shot through the water like an arrow from a bow, rapidly disappearing into the night. "Get the quarter-sail tacked! I want those ships lost in the dark before we get halfling!" Nire ordered as sailors rapidly ascended the riggings. The island was rapidly receding behind them now. The small, swift Bireme would likely have little trouble losing any pursuers. They needed to warn Lashid of a possible impending invasion.

Centroppen Sea
Hrothar Lumber Colony

" I claim this land in the name of the Holy Van Sessau and the Empress of Mille Sessau! " The soldier directly at Baron Dechamps flank stuck the huge standard of Mille Sessau, a royal blue flag emblazioned with a golden crown at one corner into the small pylon that made up the roof of the administrative building of the Hrothar Lumber Colony. The operation had so far been successful, and Baron Dechamps ordered the soldiers at ease in the humid heat of the island. They gladly obliged here, but there was little time to pause.

" Monsieur, monsieur! The Grand Flotte has spotted an enemy vessel, it has turned away to the south! " The man, a man-at-arms soldier, had a pair of nautical flags in hand and had obviously been communicating with the vessels. It would be a war at sea then.

" D'accord! Leftenant, round up any of the Halflings you see. I saw one of those shortlings run into the bushes just there. I do not think they have a military presence here, but I think some were left in their hasty escape. Find them and put them in that building over there. "

" Oui, monsieur! " And a half dozen chevaliers and men-at-arms jogged off, their armor clanking with each step as they moved to fulfill their lords orders.

'' Enemy vessel sighted! '' The Avian in the 'crows nest' shouted down to his elven counterpart. Captain Tyrion of the bireme Shurmanda wasn't inclined to let the Halfling vessel slip away, nor was it's larger sister vessel the Colossus.

'' Send up a signal flag to Caranir! Pursue! Let's sink the bastard. '' The drum beat tempo sped up, the two vessels taking up in hot pursuit after the Halfling ship as it cut through the waters, both ships attempting to get in a position to ram it. They couldn't allow the vessel to warn it's fellows after all, the less the Halflings knew about the size of the joint Sessuan-Ezrian fleet the better.

-Bireme Shurmanda and the Trireme Colossus pursue the Halfling ship.

Sessauan-Shidran War
Turn 4

Current Weather: Calm, cold ocean, Fair winds from the South
Time: In the Evening
Location: Lashid Colony

The Bireme, Dark Wave, returned sooner then expected. The vessel wasn't due for another few hours at the earliest yet here she was pulling into the docks of the budding colony. The ship's frame didn't seem damaged but the dock hands hadn't been able to view the damage done to the rear of the ship. A plank was lowered to the docks as a four Halflings carried their Captain off the ship heading straight for the best healer in the colony. Nire would live, but he'd be unavailable for the next engagement with the Sessauan-Ezria Navy’s and his absence would be felt within the Halflings navy.

Off of the south-west part of the island a look out announced, "Admiral Tinan's fleet's approaching." There was a bustle of activity at the docks as Halflings secured cargo preparing to resupply the fleet of Triremes that had come such a long way to Lashid to repel the Empire of Mille Sessau from Hrothar Lumber Colony. The Bireme, Dark Wave was resupplied with essential resources lost during the short trip to Hrothar as well as arrows.

Time: Earlier that morning
Location: Hrothar Lumber Colony

First appearances the Lumber Colony seemed to be abandoned but upon further inspection the soldiers of the Empire of Mille Sessau had begun to notice a male Halfling keeping an eye on the humans. When the Chevaliers and men-at-arms jogged off in hot pursuit of the little fellow he fled deeper heading west of the colony. His short legs though were no match for the men-at-arms longer strides. His lay of the land entertained his pursuers for a good forty-five minutes though and all were cold and dripping with sweat from the exercise.

The Halfling had a ring on his finger indicating he was married, the human guards didn't realize his family was still on the island until they attempted to break him out from the building, which resulted in a few bruises for the Halfling males and a cut from one of the smaller creatures wood axe to a Chevalier. No real damage was done besides a hurt pride for the soldiers guarding the older Halfling male.

Using the same small nautical flags the land forces informed the Grand Flotte of the captured Halfling family. Baron Dechamps would see to their questioning soon. Weather he'd play on their fears to extract his desired information or promise their safety and honor his word for their cooperation was unknown. But he'd make sure that the Grand Flotte got the information the Empire required to quickly bring this conflict to an end.

The harbor of Lashid Colony was ablaze with activity. Sailors and dockhands were loading huge numbers of supplies onto the docked triremes. Food, water, bandages, rope, sailcloth, shields, arrows - everything in preparation for the anticipated battle. The sailors of the Dark Wave made no attempt to hide the story of their battle, and the commanders wisely let them tell the tale. The sailors of the warfleet were now anxious for battle, full of confidence and bravado. If the enemy couldn't handle the Dark Wave, surely they would fall before the might of the Shidran fleet!

Captain Nire, bedridden in the newly set-up hospital, had already been granted the moniker of "ship-burner," and Admiral Tinian had made clear to everyone that as soon as the fleet was resupplied it would sail to Hrothar to put an end to the enemy fleet.

((I've done basically everything I will for the next 3 turns - 2 to resupply and one to sail to Hrothar - if the others agree I'm fine with skipping ahead to the battle.))

[ I am in full agreement. The Ezrian-Sessauan Fleet would begin to move southeast, unless Ezria objects. However, Jaymes, in my last D2D I sent a Transport from Mille Sessau to Hrothar with my general. I'd like a note on that. If/when he's arriving. ]

The Ezrian officers had been quick to restore discipline amongst the Elven crews by ordering extra rations that night and the Elves amongst the overcrowded Colossus were distributed evenly amongst the vessels. About ten to a ship to ease overcrowding. Caranir had been shocked that the Shurmanda had been sunk, he had never thought that flaming debris could bring down a damned ship. The Ezrian fleet remained with its Sessuan 'allies' until the message arrived that they could head home at least.
