Empire of Ezria (C) - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Empire of Ezria (C)   Empire of Ezria (C) - Page 2 Icon_minitimeTue Apr 05, 2011 10:05 am

Near Ezrian-Ejrakh Border:
The trading post at Torgos had been just that, a small outpost on the frontier near the border with the Ejrakh. It had been built primary as a launching point for expeditions combing the country for new resources in the Ezrian interior as it continued to grow in size and strength. The frequent battles in Agrina and the insurgency raging in Shurmanda however, changed all that. People seeking a better way of life away from the bloodshed of the Ezrian heartlands were inclined to push further north. After all, the Emperor was allowing human pilgrims to enter Ezrian lands. The merchant guilds smelled an opportunity to make money. The trading post slowly begin to develop signs of a city (with the help of the trade guilds of course), cobblestone roads were built, and slowly the tall elegant buildings of the Avian folk became a more frequent sight, there were even the smaller houses of Elve's. New investors flocked in to pump money into the local economy, creating jobs and opportunities. The soil was good, the climate moderate, and with new trading opportunities about to be developed further with the Ejrakh things were looking up on the frontier.

----------------------------------------------------------------
Matrija:
The Temple of the Prophet was a massive structure, capable of housing thousands of worshippers. It was perhaps the most magnificent church in all the world and a testament to Ezrian architectural skill. The interior of the temple was even more impressive than the exterior which was decorated with mosaics, each depicting events from Ezria's tumultuous thousand year long history. The ceiling contained the crowning achievement, the fiery comet signaling the birth of a savior for the Ezrian nation and of course the savior in the flesh descending from the Realm of the Gods. King Zengari the Great, the founder of the modern day nation of Ezria and Casimir's grandfather.. The newly crowned (and self proclaimed) Emperor Casimir had been all too aware of the tension within his cities. The trade guilds, the ethnic frictions, all tended to create an unstable mixture that could explode at any moment. He had needed something to unite the masses, what better way then religion?

----------------------------------------------------------------
Northern Fields:
The campsite was littered with the dead and the dying, while Kirhae and his troops had managed to slaughter a large portion of the insurgents many more had managed to scurry off under the cover of the smoke. Hanno wasn't about to let them get away however. The Battlemaster had to be avenged. '' Send word back to Sordu about the battle and the quality of our fellow Elven soldiers, we're going after the rebels. But first we search the camp. Look for any maps, documents, I want to know where they might go next. '' Hanno barked... '' interrogate any prisoners we managed to capture. I want scouts out to follow any trail the insurgents might have left. ''

Summary:
The town of Torgos is founded for 10 CP.

The Temple of the Prophet is built for the cost of 27 EP.

Battle Captain Hanno orders the campsite searched for leads on insurgent activity, any prisoners taken will be interrogated. Sordu is informed of the victory and the unreliability of Elven troops when used in combat against their own kinfolk. The Ezrian's prepare to pursue the rebels.

With the kingdom growing in power and size, it was inevitable that the government would go through a flux and change. The change though would come unexpected to the self proclaimed Emperor as he walked into the throne room of the palace after being informed by Kasar Merkit of people wishing to seek an audience with Casimir. Upon entering the throne room and sitting upon the throne, seven people entered. It was a mixed group of elves and avians, all of which were known to the emperor from his day to day dealings of running the kingdom.

Aelar Tallond, Locien Haerina, and Moradin Vanos were the elf lords who represented the elves in the Duchy of Mabiya. Alongside them was Harlen Goodier and Caldon Halmar, ministers that handled the local populace and interior affairs, as well as Len Feir, the head of the Workers Guild, and Ivan Scorvic, head of the Merchant Guild. The look on the men's faces gave Casimir a pause for the collection of the group couldn't bode well from his kingdom.

Caldon stepped forward bowing before he spoke. "Your majesty. We have come before you because of so much turmoil that sweeps through our lands. The elves wish for peace and to prosper just like the natives of Ezria, so you proclaiming yourself emperor doesn't sit well with them or even many of our people for the thought of further loss of life."

Caldon shuffled his wings a little bit while looking from the emperor to his compatriots. The man gained some strength from them, obviously being the chosen spokesman for the group. He straightened a bit before continuing.

"Others have come to me after selecting representatives amongst themselves to speak with you on matters. It is our belief and request that you share the power with representatives so that way the people of Ezria and Mabiya are satisfied. None of us wish for ultimate power, just to make sure policies and decisions are proper for each group we represent."

The Minister of the Interior swallowed for a second, then continued to push forward.

"So our request is that a council is formed between us seven and yourself to make policy and decisions that involve all the groups that now fall under the banner of Ezria."

After Caldon had finished his proposal, he handed a parchment of to Kasar Merkit. The parchment contained the outlines of forming the government into a Confederacy and away from the monarchy that the kingdom had been for centuries. Kasar read over the declaration before moving up to the throne and handing it to his emperor to read.

Duchy of Mabiya

The Ezria military had won a major victory over the elvish rebels, even though a good portion had gotten away and even the elvish cavalry had defected and disappeared into the general population. Regardless of that though the remaining Ezria infantry escorted the few prisoners back to the capital. The elves were a sore excuse for a proud people with their heads bowed and filthy after the fight.

The new lieutenant who took over command from Battlemaster Kirhae was disappointed at what remained from the rebel camp. The scattered papers held nothing of import to the Ezria military. Most of it was gibberish with no names or places of list. One thing the Ezria military was able to determine was that the elvish rebels were not all that large as of yet, though they were organized.

The new lieutenant finally gave the move out order and the forces that remained to search the camp left. He didn't envy those elvish prisoners though. Jail was not going to be pleasant for them and he knew the interrogations even less so. If he had a choice though he would of executed every last one of them because he had lost friends and comrades here. The lieutenant also knew if he did such a thing then he was probably good as dead as well.

Summary:
--Kingdom of Ezria's government changes to a Confederacy after Casimir proclaims himself Emperor. Various groups of people, both elf and avian, go to the emperor and request him to be apart of a council that will decided policy and choices for the kingdom. These men are those who have a vested interest in what happens to the kingdom and effects them as well.

-- Ezria's military wins a major victory against the Thaedys'm Cal though a good portion of their forces have retreated and are demoralized. Though nothing is gained from the papers in the camp except that the rebels are still small in conspirators but well organized. They were able to capture a handful of prisoners that are escorted to the capital for prisons.

Imperial Palace / Coronne:
There was the sounds of swords shifting in their leather scabbards. Battle Captain Vatu of the Imperial Guard actually drew his sword and stepped towards the assembled nobleman who dared challenge the authority of the Emperor.

'' How dare you! Kill them! '' Vatu barked, the Imperial Guard began to move forward to encircle the nobleman, blades screaming from their scabbards to present a wall of steel to the traitors who dare demand that the Emperor give up even a modicum of his power.

'' Wait. '' Casimir said ever so softly. A massive sigh rolling from his large frame as he stood, the guard dogs restrained from killing the delegation only by the invisible leash that existed between master and servant. '' All I have done for this country has to expand Ezria's glory. Can you remember what this country used to look like under my father? We huddled in our mountain chains, afraid to explore the lowlands. Now we own the lowlands. Has Ezria never been so rich or prosperous under me? The Elve's will come to heel, they must. '' For now, Casimir had to play fair. These men held too much influence from their respective provinces. To order their execution would be perilous for his Dynasty.

'' I will appoint you as my Imperial Council. However, all final decisions will remain with me. '' Casimir said finally. '' I will tell you of your duties in the morning. Leave me. ''

---------------------------------------------------------------
The Emperor was tired. Never in all of his forty years of governing this country had the crown weighed so much. The reason for ever wanting to take it from his father in the first place had long since been forgotten in the passage of time. It seemed as if the entire world was pressing down on Ezria and Casimir was the only thing holding his fragile country together. The latest news from the front was bad. Heavy fighting around Agrina, estimated casualties for his own forces ran well within the thousands. Would Ezria ever know peace? Despite what the history books had claimed, Casimir had never wanted a war. He had wanted to contain the threat the Dwarve's posed, to ensure that they remained within their mountain home to never trouble the Ezrian people. Evidently the Dwarve's had other thoughts on their mind. They had mustered their troops so fast.. and now his army was fighting for it's very life..the situation could not be tolerated for much longer.

Something had to change. The Dwarve's had rejected his offer for peace, to offer a second time would look weak and not magnanimous especially with the result in doubt. He needed a victory, he needed Deathtrap Pass. Now it was up to his eldest son Prince Rhago. The boy had been so eager to fight and Casimir had grudgingly given in. Even Hulagu had agreed that the boy was a skilled tactician and fine warrior.. The people needed to see the Royal Line at the front, even though it pained him to send his own heir in his stead. He had other sons but none like Rhago. But the Ezrian's were receiving help and they would need more of it from the Ejrakh.

'' Order out emissaries to speak with Rehal and her people. We will be needing more soldiers. '' Casimir said sullenly to his steward who dutifully ensured that the message was passed to Anda. '' and begin sending delegations to the unexplored lands on our borders. We will be needing more allies...and send a messenger to the Blood Wing's, we shall be needing their services in the coming days. ''

Summary:
-Government changes to an oligarchy

-Emperor Casimir orders exploratory missions to the surrounding lands

-3 companies of Blood Wing's are hired for 9 EP.

Ezrian Mountains / Village of the Blood Wing's:
It was cold. So damned cold but despite the fact that Basil was from the mountains, he had never ventured this high. The path if you could call it that was slippery, the risk of falling to your death more than likely. Even a strong gust of wind threatened to blow him off the trail. Basil didn't attempt to even try to fly, the air was thinner up here and he would be weaker..perhaps even disoriented. His guide obviously didn't share his ailments as the Blood Wing lead Basil and his party to their village.

The enclave had been founded over a century ago after the revolt against King Ogedi in the first day of his rule. King Zengari hadn't even been cold in his grave yet when the Blood Wing's struck against their rightful master. Basil was brought before the village chief a man by the name of Hanzo in the old one's hut. It was rumored that Hanzo was the only senior officer of the Blood Wing's to survive against Ogedi in the coup. He must have been well over a 150 years old.

'' So the King has come to beg for my people's services again I see. Or is it Emperor now I'm hearing? '' Hanzo cocked his head. '' I hope that he does not need another family member dealt with. '' A loud hacking chuckle left the creatures lungs.

'' Watch your tone. '' Basil snarled. '' It is only through the Emperor's benevolence that he allows you to live in this shit heap. ''

'' Is it? '' Hanzo said with something akin to a smile, another wracking cough and chuckle before he grew serious. '' Why are you here? ''

'' The Dwarven underfolk have attacked Agrina. For the past year our Army has been locked in a stalemate. We are running out of resources so the Emperor has turned to your kind for support. ''

'' The Dwarve's...there is a creature that I miss killing. It must be going on near a century now since my blade has tasted half man blood. My fee? ''

'' Provided as always. '' Basil motioned for one of his men outside to bring in the chests. '' 630,000 Imperial Crowns. '' He said opening them to expose the glittering gold. Ever the shrewd one, Hanzo bit into one of the coins before tossing it back into the chest.

'' Then you have the swords of the Blood Wing's. It will be good to fight for the country again. '' Hanzo said clapping his hands together and standing. '' Now leave us. I will assemble my men and we will leave by morning for Agrina. ''

Coronne:
'' You are insane, you realize? '' Quintus piped as he packed the cartographers bag.

''I am not insane, I am eccentric. '' Aemon replied sternly, though even he realized that his plan was a daunting one. Safely map and chart the entire continent, it could take a year or more..But the Empire already knew where Mille Sessau and the lands of the Ejrakh were. Who knew what else lay beyond those frontiers however? The Emperor wanted to find out and he most certainly wanted to trade and ally with those that lay beyond. He knew from talk at court that their sovereign had been disappointed with the arrangement he had with Mille Sessau. The Emperor wanted more dependable friends. By the Furies, even the damned barbarian were more dependable than those foul smelling, double crossing frogs! He had been given a letter by the monarch, authorizing Aemon to speak on the Empire's behalf and enter negotiations.

'' Still coming with me? '' Aemon said finally after a long silence between the two.

'' May the Ancestors help me, yes. '' Quintus said as if he had just signed his own death warrant. More than likely he had. For his journey, the Emperor had provided a small escort of the Imperial Guard. The expedition would be fifteen in number, they would be traveling light to allow them to fly and cover more ground.

'' Then let us go. '' The two Avian's picked up their packs, slinging them across their frames as they left office behind to rendezvous with a Talon Leader named Davos. Soon, they would be marching in the direction of Karag Mor. The Dwarven nation that the Empire was now unknowingly at war with.

Summary:
-The Blood Wing's leave their remote mountain villages and move to Agrina to join Prince Rhago.

-The cartographers Aemon and Quintus, with a bodyguard of thirteen of the Nukur begin their journey to map the entire continent. Starting with the borderlands of Karag Mor.

With the appointment of what people were calling the Big Seven, those avians and elves went back to their respected groups to inform them that Casimir wouldn't share the power but had elected them to serve as council. So even though they hadn't met on the terms the seven had gone in for, they would at least have a voice in the decisions the emperor made in regards to the people and kingdom. Though each man viewed it as a good deal for it elevated their own positions above those of their respective groups, not everyone agreed with them.

The one most vocal group was that of the various trade guilds around the kingdom. They had not sent their representatives to the palace to gain them further prominence, but to gain the guilds a voice in truly setting policy that helped them out as a whole. True the war helped out some of the guilds that made profits off such events, but overall it hurt the general economy for the guilds. Being organized as they were but mindful of the fact that Ezria was at war, the guilds separately went to the streets to protest.

Though these protests were riots, they weren't peaceful gatherings either. They blocked off a section of the capital at least once a week that made movement impossible through that area. On top of the impediment to movement, the gathering of guildsmen shut down local business in the area for the day as well. Various figures, none regularly common, spoke up about more rights for the trade guilds since they were the ones who kept the kingdom feed and profit to line the emperor's pockets.

The city guard was leery of the assembled guildsman just in the fact that the city guard was greatly outnumbered. They kept a close watch over the protests, but never went in to break it up. The reason for this is that the first couple times the city guard had gone in, fights broke out between them and the guildsmen which ended up with people being bloodied on both sides and the city guard sorely beaten. Captain Antoin knew that his men were going to be unable to do much if riots did break out without help from the military. A situation he didn't look forward to since it would cost lives of both troublemakers and innocents.

Summary:
--Even though the seven members who came to the palace went away happy at being elevated and still getting their council, the people aren't. Many trade guildsmen go out to protest about wanting more since they are the ones that make running the kingdom responsible. A few fights between the protestors and city guard have broken out which leads Captain Antoin to believe if rioting does occur, then the city guard will not be able to hold the guildsmen off without help from the military.

Coronne:
Imperial Palace:
Thus far, the only thing keeping the Imperial Guard from rampaging through the streets was the Emperor's orders. Over a thousand troops had been assembled to put down the unrest if Casimir gave the order but as of yet he wasn't inclined to turn his Army on his own people, even if they were misguided fools. In the end, he had ordered the respective Guild Head's to the Imperial Palace for talks. Meanwhile, the army had begun to coordinate with the city guard to quash the uprising and keep the roads of the city open. Law and order, especially during a time of war was not to be flouted especially by the like's of tradesmen and cobblers.

The Emperor was playing carrot and stick. He was going to offer concessions but he was also letting the Guild Master's know of the massive stick that Casimir was fully prepared to beat them to death with.

'' Gentleman. '' The Emperor said with an incline from his head from the Imperial Throne. The Guild Master's could have either come willingly or Ezrian troops would have dragged them off to the palace. The longer that these protests went on the more it threatened the stability of his nation.

'' I am here today to remind you of your firm patriotic duty as Ezrian's. The Dwarve's are an ever pressing concern and trump politics of any sort. I will expect each and every one of you to keep that in mind during these negotiations. I will not allow bids for power to endanger the lives of our soldiers whom are fighting so bravely to defend men like you. Now.. '' Casimir said, talon's scratching against the iron arms of his throne as he leaned forward. That shrewd gaze eviscerating every elf and avian alike in the room.

'' As I have said to your representatives before. I will appoint each of them to specific titles and positions in Ministries to oversee affairs of the country. You will all have a say in the policies of this great nation, as you have requested. Secondly, the guild's will elect their own representatives every three years to the Council so that no one man can personally gains from his new position and exploit it for his own profit. However, as I have said before..all final decision making will remain with me. I am the head of this Council and I am your ruler. If we cannot come to an arrangement today here and now, I am fully prepared to unleash the might of the Ezrian Army to quash these uprisings against the law and will order the dismantling of the Guilds. Let me remind you the penalty for treason in a time of war gentleman is execution or life imprisonment. Decide now. '' The exit from the throne room had been blocked by two full platoons of Imperial Guardsman. The tradesmen were trapped and would have to come to a decision here and now. They could continue their riots at their own risk or negotiate.

Summary:
-The Emperor offers concessions to the Guild Masters but in the event they refuse, readies the Imperial Army to disband the protests.

Agrina:
The flames licked over the reverent figure of War Master Hulagu whom was stretched across the pyre, slowly consuming the titan that had been involved in Ezrian's military endeavors since the time of King Ogedai, Prince Rhago's grandfather. The War Master looked no less fearsome than he did in death. Rhago half expected the soldier to leap up, and reach for his blade to lead the charge once against the Dwarve's. This last defeat had disgraced him but at the least he had attempted redemption by dying. If he had allowed himself to live...then Rhago would have killed the old man himself. The effects of that would hardly have been good for morale. A sigh escaped his lips. Hulagu wasn't the only one being burned today. Funeral pyres were being prepared for the many hundred's that still had to be burned to ashes. The Dwarven corpses had been piled up like so much cord wood until they were finally fed to the flames. Eventually, as Hulagu's body turned into a torch Rhago turned and walked away. He was followed closely by Battlemaster Kulash.

'' You are the last one left. '' Rhago said. Of the three commanders that had marched to Agrina, two had died during the Second Battle for the city. Ironically, Kulash had survived them all. He had fought the Dwarve's at Death Trap pass and retreated in good order and he managed to defeat the Dwarve's at the First Battle of Agrina despite not having a numerical advantage against the enemy. He had survived the second battle for the city when many of his brethren had not and had liberated the prisoners during the retaking of Agrina. Kulash had a fine mind and had proven his worth.

'' Indeed I am, Your Grace. I fought with Hulagu and Corba since my hatchling days. But these are dangerous times. In war, these thing's happen. The only question that remains is whether the Dwarve's will come down or if we will have to go up and get them. This has to end my Prince, this stalemate has been going on for over a year. '' Kulash said solemnly.

'' It will end, I promise you that. I have a plan. We aren't going to be sitting on our hands for much longer I assure you. Until that time I will advise my father to appoint you as War Master. I have not yet informed him of Hulagu's death. '' He knew that his father in particular would be wounded by Hulagu's demise. After all, he had been the Emperor's protector and friend throughout the nearly forty years he had sat on the throne.

'' I am honored my Prince. I will ensure that your trust is not misplaced. '' Kulash said, the note of surprise in his voice quickly disappearing.

'' Indeed, you know the consequences of failure. '' Rhago murmured before clapping Kulash on his unwounded arm. '' Come let us get out of this damned cold and share a drink. ''

-------------------------------------------
Agrina:
The Town Watch buildings had been erected three weeks ago. First Rhago had wanted someone to watch over the prisoners but he realized the value of the structure and the men whom manned it if the enemy were to launch another assault again. 600 auxiliary troops in the event of another assault was not a bad gamble. Rhago knew that it was a distinct possibility and the reserves would be vital if he wanted to keep his foothold. If the Dwarve's braved another assault, Rhago was determined to be ready for them.

Summary:
-War Master Hulagu is burned on a funeral pyre, Kulash is offered the position of War Master with Hulagu dead and accepts.

-2 Town Watch buildings are constructed in Agrina for 32 EP.
