Third Battle of Agrina
Turn 1 (Campaign Turn 9)

" There is no end to them. I swear to you. They infest every nook and cranny of these mountains. " The Republican Dwarven Legion had barely time to eat a few pieces of bread and round the Ezrian prisoners up before Dwarven scouts on the walls reported a huge host coming from the west, from the road to Coronne. General Sid ordered all available troops off the walls and into the square where they could defend themselves as a wholesome unit, but even General Sid knew it was in vain. Like agitated bees the skies filled with over 2,500 Ezrians.

" Sons! My sons! It has been naught but an' honor to serve alongside you! You have given everything you have for the Republic. You have beaten back the hordes of birdmen that come to rape and pillage our great mountain, yet still they come! They know no end, they know only death and destruction. Look, look to the man beside you and know this! Your death will not be forgotten, your sacrifice will be remembered forever as the defenders of the Republic. Show no mercy, lads, for you will receive none! "

The city of Agrina was vast, but even from the central courtyard the Dwarven defenders could see the swathes of soldiers landing along the walls. An entire company landed at the gates and manned the huge chains to open the massive portcullis, slews of bodies slowing the process. General Hulagu and the Ezrian soldiers were in the Second Square on Agrina's northeast corner, manned by 100 Spearmen. The remaining 111 Spearmen and 442 Swordsmen and General Sid were in the Central Square, their defenses as ready as they could be.

This would be the Third Battle for Agrina, yet Rhago knew that the city could change hands yet again in a fourth or fifth battle. So many of his countrymen dead, rage pulsed through his frame as he watched the Imperial Guard seize the gates. Soon the stain of this defeat could be avenged, the infantry pushed towards the gates. The portcullis slowly opening as the troops cleared the corpses out of the way, the Baatur (swordsmen) leading the way followed by the cavalry once the gates were open.

Meanwhile, Kulash made the rescue of the prisoners his priority. The Ezrian's would need the soldiers for coming battles. Four hundred of the Nukur broke from the walls and took to the sky once more to land gracefully in the northeast corner, blades drawn as they rushed the Dwarf guards to free their brethren. The Ezrian skirmishers strung their bows ready to unleash wave upon wave of projectiles, positioning themselves along the walls where they could support the rescue operation and fend off Dwarven attempts to reinforce the gate. The Nukur were also prepared to reinforce there brethren if the Dwarve's moved from the main square to attempt to slaughter the prisoners.

------------------------------------------------------
War Master Hulagu knew that the end was more than possibly nigh for him. Not just his career but his life. He had lost the battle, he might have lost the damned war. Shame gripped him but he could still do something to salvage the warrior inside him. He watched as the graceful forms of the Nukur landed, the Ezrian soldiers had been bound and been made to sit..but for Hulagu the rope's were none too tight. The half men seemed to have forgotten the Ezrian's massive claws that could shred flesh, bone, and certainly the rope that bound his hands. The ropes were cut with a wave of those massive talons as the General stood, watching as the Nukur rushed the Dwarven guards and determined to help his fellow soldiers in whatever way that he could.

'' FOR OUR EMPEROR! FIGHT FOR OUR EMPEROR! KILL THEM! '' He roared at the assembled and bloodied mass of prisoners whom were watching the developments, stunned. With that Hulagu choosing to lead by example charged the nearest Dwarven spearmen, intending to rip his throat out with the last weapon at his disposal. Those massive talons that he had seen the Dwarve's cutting off and taking as trophies. They would all pay, and the War Master was hoping that it cost him his life so that he could wipe away the shame of that grim defeat..but not without taking some of these Dwarven bastards with him to the afterlife.

Summary:
-Ezrian warriors take the gates, a force under Battlemaster Kulash moves to rescue the prisoners.
-War Master Hulagu incites the prisoners to rebel and attack their guards from behind.
-The Nukur hold onto the main gates, skirmishers moving to support the rescue force by moving into better position along the walls. The main force of the Imperial Guard is also prepared to move on the northeast square if the Dwarve's attack.

Central Square

General Sid knew that if the Avian's had breached the city yet it was only a matter of time. After giving a inpiring speech to the few dwarves the remained under his command he stated, "It's been an honor to serve with you." He then ordered, "I want two groups. Split the Berserkers (Spearmen) and Dragon Scale Shields (Swordsmen) equally. Private Grimbeard you're in charge of the second group." The second battle of Agrina had taken the lives off all senior officers besides General Sid and Commander Strongarm.

"Both groups are to make their way deeper into the city, use allyways and sideroads don't directly engage the enemy if there's a large force of them. Our goal is to burn their warehouses to the ground and pray they didn't send the food gathered from this past harvest out yet." Sid informed the dwarves. This last ditch effort ment the general didn't expect anyone to survive, sacrificing their honor to ensure that the Republic would gain every advantage the 3rd could give them in the last moments they spent alive. The dwarves planned to fight the Avian's in a grueling and tiresome urban battle. They'd pay a heavy price for taking the city.

Northeast Square

Commander Strongarm got the Sentry's message. They gaurds were stationed around the prisioners before but with the orders they had moved to the north side of the square, still able to kill the Avian's with a good throw of their weapons. That knowledge kept the Avian's under controll till forces under Battlemaster Kulash entered from the southern street. That's when an Avian, War Master Hulagu, broke free from his bonds and called his captured warriors to fight. Commander Strongarm was the first to react, he threw his weapon at the Avian drawing his secondary from it's seath. "Into the city." he ordered and the Berserkers left and began an urban war with the Avians.

The decision to incite the prisioners to fight the dwarves worked in their favor. The unarmed and unarmored captives blocked Battlemaster Kulash's forces from imediately pursuing the forces under Commander Strongarm's command. Any Avian prision pursuing the force would be weaponless and armorless. The Griffon mountss were on the other side of the city while all weapons and armor were simply discarded at the gate when the battle had finally ended. Strongarm would attempt to drag the fighting out as long as possible against the Avian's far superior forces. He'd avoid any committed battle and keep on the move within the large city that normally bustled with activity.

Summery:
-General Sid splits his force. He takes half and Private Grimbeard take the other. Their objective is to burn the food stores in the city and pray that the harvest from the feilds hasn't been sent out yet and fight and Urban war against the Avian's.

-Commander Strongarm takes his Spearmen and begins an urban war with the Avian's. Head on engagements he'll attempt to avoid.

Third Battle of Agrina
Turn 1 (Campaign Turn 9)

The systematic slaughter of the remainder of the Republican Dwarven Legion would not be one easily forgotten. General Sid went down in a comparative blaze of fire, taking seven Ezrians down before being shot twice from Ezrian archers across the Southeastern Courtyard. The Third Battle of Agrina was less of a large single battle and more a dozen smaller battles all taking place in different locations within the city of Agrina. General Hulagu was also a hotly debated subject. Was he the last casualty of the Ezrian defeat at the Second Battle of Agrina, or was the first casualty of the inevitable Ezrian victory of the Third Battle of Agrina? He was skewered by one of the many spearmen who watched them. The commander of the spearmen guarding the Ezrians called a tactical retreat just as the fierce Nukur landed inside the square where the prisoners were held. Hulagu lay dead, but the remaining prisoners were freed and told to remain until the battle was over.

Commander Strongarm and his 110 man strong company were ambushed seven times, and seven times they fought the Nukur infantry off who fell from the sky and darted to and fro. The Dwarven commander himself fell during the fifth ambush, but the spearmen fought until the last two dozen or so and they surrendered.

The soldiers under Prince Rhago eventually reached the gates (Since they wouldn't reach the gates until ModMark 2. Y'anno THIS MODMARK) and was given free entrance. Bodies littered the ground in every direction, and it Prince Rhago stepped carefully to avoid standing on a slain corpse. Within minutes, an Ezrian soldier fell from the sky, landed abruptly and approached the Prince. He bowed low and began to speak.

" Those units still alive have surrendered, my liege. Their commander is slain. We have them here! " Prince Rhago noted the bloodied saber hanging from the soldier's hip, a warrior to be sure. He turned and extended a talon to show Prince Rhago what he meant. They marched, their hands bound and their armor bloody, the remainder of the Dwarven Republican Legion. They numbered 232, and they had seen better days. Nukur warriors surrounded them on all sides. The highest ranking officer among them was a Corporal, and he had little information to give on anything useful in the campaign.

About the same the fierce fighting in Agrina ended, it began. It was heavy, there was no exponential growth, no calm before the storm. The snow fell in sheets, and within the first hour an inch and a half had coated the battlefield. The temperature dropped into the negatives, and complaints became commonplace. Prince Rhago himself wore a Sessauan fur, as did his aide-de-camp, but the Ezrian Auxiliary Force as a whole was not so lucky.
