King Casimir's War
Turn 1

Instigated first by King Casimir's grandfather, the ancient Avian-Dwarf Wars were bloody conflicts that lasted decades separated by intermittent periods of peace. They ended as the Dwarves finally decided to let the Ezrian's claim the upper mountains and the Dwarves simply decided it best to remove within the lower mountains. Unfortunately, the Ezrian's continued to expand and the two civilizations inevitability clashed again. This war was predominantly the child of the Ezrian King Casimir, who felt somewhat humiliated at the abrupt end of the last Avian-Dwarf Wars. Although he wasn't yet alive, his grandfather clearly outlined the unfortunate string of defeats the Ezrians suffered before the Dwarves finally retreated into their ancestral homes. The Casimir bloodline would finally have its revenge.

The beginning of the war stemmed from the confidence of the rulers of Ezria who finally felt the kingdom was strong enough to wage war against the Republic of Ever-Winter and finally drive the Dwarves out of the region. The Ezrian military was ordered to scout out the nearby mountains to discover the entrances to the vast tunnel system the Dwarves operated and in doing so could contain them until the Ezrians could legitimately gain a foothold and launch an offensive. The Ezrians, although intending for war, do not yet know that the Dwarves have mobilized a majority of their forces to counteract the Ezrian scouting. A small time skirmish between Ezrian Talon Leader Varnust and two scouts who happened upon the southern tunnel entrance into Ever-Winter was the catalyst that led the Republic's unanimous vote to war.

NOTES

-- This war is currently between the Republic of Ever-Winter (Dwarves) and the Kingdom of Ezria (Avians).
-- The Kingdom of Ezria (Avians) do not currently know exactly where the Dwarven entrances are, the troops must continue to look until found.
-- The Kingdom of Ezria (Avians) is not yet aware of the wartime situation and CANNOT mobilize further troops until ModMarks indicate otherwise. The Ezrians think they have the element of surprise here.
-- The Kingdom of Ezria (Avians) may not use Flight if they enter the underground tunnels.
-- The Republic of Ever-Winter (Dwarves) Light Cavalry, Heavy Cavalry and all Siege Equipment have slower movement within the Ezrian Mountains.
-- The Dwarven entrances CANNOT be sealed and/or closed. This would be possible only with the Major Stone Walls upgrade.

POST ORDER

-- 1. Republic of Ever-Winter : The Republic has an allotted use of 100% of their available forces, although they are somewhat scattered within the kingdom. All of their soldiers must be accounted for within the opening post and given orders (if any).

Available Military (100%)
-- 4,800 Dwarven Light Infantry
-- 3,600 Veteran Dwarven Heavy Infantry
-- 2,400 Dwarven Light Cavalry
-- 1,200 Dwarven Heavy Cavalry
-- 10 Catapults
-- 2 Battering Rams
-- 1 Siege Tower

-- 2. Kingdom of Ezria : The Kingdom of Ezria has dispatched 800 light infantry, 700 light cavalry to the Eastern Front of their Kingdom. They cannot be used in this war unless recalled, which will take one ModMark to reach them, and one ModMark to return to a position to assist. All other units are available, although they are somewhat scattered within the kingdom. All soldiers must be accounted for within Ezria's first post and given orders (if any)

Available Military (Currently)
-- 700 Avian Light Infantry
-- 2,700 Avian Heavy Infantry
-- 1,700 Avian Light Cavalry
-- 1,500 Avian Heavy Cavalry
-- 5 Catapults
-- 2 Battering Rams
-- 2 Siege Towers

-- 3. ModMarks : Moderation Marks will be given to dictate casualties. If no tactics are given during the respective posts, the Moderator will have to imply battle tactics which may mean unnecessary casualties, it is for this reason that it must be stressed to be extremely detailed in your posts.

City of Ever-Winter; Military Concil

General Sid waited for the commanders of the Tears* to be seated before greeting them, "Brothers we all know why were here. Let us not procrastinate with small pleasentries. The following tears will be part of the 3rd Dwarven Legion assualting the Avians City of Coronne*." Motioning a younger dwarf handed out parchment with writing one it dictating orders for those on the list. "They are to rally within a days time. Our Regent is overseeing the civilian caravans that will be travelling with us so no need to fret about that. One less problem for us yes." he added smiling It was simply scribed:

3rd Dwarven Legion; Assualt Force

The 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 7th Light Infantry Tears
The 1st, 6th, and 7th Heavy Infantry Tears
The 4th and the 9th Light Cavalry Tears
The 5th Heavy Cavalry Tear
Also one battering ram team

All forces stated above are to rally at the South Entrance within a days time. General Sid will be the Legion Commander with Tears Commander Felix of the 7th Heavy Infantry Tear as his second for the march against the City of Coronne.

As the commanders read over their assignments and the other units they'd serve with during the assualt against Coronne the General continued with the Mountain Defense Legion orders and stations. "The remaining Tears and Companies will force the 2nd Mountain Defense Legion. In all our history such a force has never had to fight within our mountains but these Avians are cruel and ruthless. Who knows how the 3rd Dwarven Legion will fare so you must be prepared for the worst and not grow complacent in our absence." Sid intoned grimly as the aid handed orders out to the Company Captains and Tear Commanders who would remain.

2nd Mountain Defense Legion

South Entrance:
The 4th Light Infantry Tear
The 14th Heavy Infantry Company
The 21st Light Cavalry Company

North Entrance:
The 11th Light Infantry Tear Supported by the 9th Light Infantry Company
The 2nd Heavy Infantry Tear
The 13th Light Cavalry Company
The 8th Heavy Cavalry Company

Cities and Warrens:
The 4th, 11th, and 18th Light Infantry Companies
The 7th, 16th, and 23rd Heavy Infantry Companies
The 11th Light Cavalry Tear
The 3rd Heavy Cavalry Company

The forces will be led by Regent Thrag, former General of the Republic, to keep the rebels and outlaw forces at bay and out of our cities and warrens. Commander Ironfist of the 11th Light Cavalry Tear will be the second in command, but mainly in charge of our republics Entrance's Defenses.

Many of the dwarves with the 2nd Mountain Defense Legion murmured their agreement of Regent Thrag. He knew his people and had thwarted what would have been a dictatorship by not following the former regents misguided ways. Interrupting the commanders and captians the general reminded his fellow dwarves, "Before we leave I would like to remind you all of the Avians sneaky tactics. Some of those creatures infantry can fly and flank us, I want at least 50 to 100 crossbows among each infantry company marching with the 3rd Dwarven Legion. Dismissed."

South Entrance a Day Later

The 3rd Dwarven Legion had rallied and was preparing to march out at dawn when the suns early rays from the east would give enough light to see and travel their route with safety. General Sid was at the lead of the 1st Heavy Infantry Tear. Issuing orders to a drummer a low beat sounded out informing the forwardmost ranks to begin their procession out of the mountain. The drummers drum remained muffled while within the mountain to prevent accidents caused by the vibrations of his drum. When exiting the south entrance the drummer could unmuffled it without fear for the season was turning from spring to summer and any snow in the upper mountains would be mostly melted.

The 3rd Dwarven Legion marched up the mountain led by a scouting Light Infantry Tear ordered to kill any Avian scouts on sight before they could see the main army. Should they not have sufficient force they are to warn the 3rd Dwarven Legion so the Avians could be dispatched they could inform their Kingdom of the Dwarven Legion that marchs to war.

Following them was a Heavy Infantry Tear and another Light Infantry Tear, with the Cavalry Tears, Caravans, and Battering Ram residing in the middle of the formation. Behind these slow moving units whom the army was forced to match their slow pace were a Light Infantry Tear followed closely by the Heavy Infantry Tear and the remaining Light Infantry Tear. Many of the infantry companies had issued crossbows to thwart the Avians flying infantry who, in the previous skirmishes years earlier, had gotten the drop on the 1st Dwarven Legion. No similiar mistakes of that time would be made with the 3rd.

The Dwarves of the army were full of life. Jokes were passed among the ranks as the dwarves easily climbed higher. These dwarves were made for steep climbs of the mountains and the armor they bore was nothing more then a second skin to these stout soldiers of the republic. Even the horses seemed to enjoy the march. Although they were part of the reason for a slow pace the war horses were bred for strength and in peace full times were used by the Operis Clan to aid in moving the huge blocks of stone from the qarries. The armor they bore was nothing short of a light burden to them even with their dwarven masters at atop their backs at the reins.

Although their mood was light and heartening those with crossbows were seen to scan the skies weary of those Avians underhanded tactics. Dwarves prefered a straight conflict and these Avians, in their opinion never presented such a head straight engagement.

Summery

-General Sid issues orders for the 3rd Dwarven Legion who rally and begin their march against the Avians in Coronne.

-3rd Dwarven Legion comprises of the following:
8 Light Infantry Companies (2,400 Dwarves)
6 Heavy Infantry Companies (1,800 Dwarves)
4 Light Cavalry Companies (1,200 Dwarves and Mounts)
2 Heavy Cavalry Companies (600 Dwarves and Mounts)
1 Battering Ram (20 Dwarves + Battering Ram)
Caravans to feed and supply the Legion

-2nd Mountain Defense Legion is under two Commanders. One for the Cities and Warrens to keep rebels and outlaws at bay with half the army gone. The other to ensure that both the South and North Entrance admits no one but Dwarves.

-Cities and Warrens force comprises of:
3 Light Infantry Companies (900 Dwarves)
3 Heavy Infantry Companies (900 Dwarves)
2 Light Cavalry Companies (600 Dwarves)
1 Heavy Cavalry Company (300 Dwarves)

-North Entrance Forces:
3 Light Infantry Companies (900 Dwarves)
2 Heavy Infantry Companies (600 Dwarves)
1 Light Cavalry Company (300 Dwarves)
1 Heavy Cavalry Company (300 Dwarves)

-South Entrance Forces:
2 Light Infantry Companies (600 Dwarves)
1 Heavy Infantry Company (300 Dwarves)
1 Light Cavalry Company (300 Dwarves)

*Tears - Is a larger compisition of troops consisting of two Companies and has a commander in charge of them unlike the Captains in charge of Companies
*Coronne - Avians city, the sole surviving diplomate had informed the dwarves long ago where the city was. That was their destination during the last time Dwarves and Avians fought and is the current destination now.

(OOC: Dwarves don't think that when Avians use their flgiht in a battle is a straight forward battle hench their low opinion of them.)

Battle Campaign (Mille Sessau) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Battle Campaign (Mille Sessau)   Battle Campaign (Mille Sessau) Icon_minitimeFri Feb 25, 2011 8:01 am

Ezrian Mountains:
Battle Master Kulash:
Kulash had no intention of venturing down into the Dwarven stronghold, at least not yet. By doing so he would be losing many of his troops natural advantages, by luring the dwarves out he was drawing them further into terrain that the Battlemaster and the Ezrian Army knew intimately. His job was to contain, not invade.. At least not yet. The Battlemaster had already mulled on the possibility of the Dwarves emerging from their caves to invade the mountain chain and had come to the following conclusions that were obvious to him.

A large invading army moving through the mountains faced several problems. First, the mountain passes were difficult to cross through in battle formation and any large army would have to spread out in a long column with wagons, supplies, and other heavy siege equipment lagging in the rear. The lack of roads in Ezria would slow them down considerably whereas the Ezrian's knew exactly the best routes to send troops and where to bottle them up depending on what route of invasion the dwarves were committed to. Secondly, fighting in the cold and freezing mountain environments was something that the Ezrian army had experience with. An army fighting at high altitudes literally had to adjust to the thinner air, which could bring about sickness ranging from disorientation to vomiting and other symptoms.

Yet the fact that Varnus and his group of scouts had more than likely met their demise at the hands of a Dwarven ambush meant that a large force could already be on the surface. Kulash although an aggressive commander was not stupid. He had deployed more than a 100 scouts in front of the main body of his force to hunt for any potential Dwarven troops, if there were any out there...then he would know of it. They would be in for a nasty surprise.

-----------------------------
Ezrian Scouts
More than a hundred had left the Ezrian column, swinging wide over the mountain range. They stuck to the sky, ducking behind bursts of cloud before diving down towards the southern mountain passes where with their unparalleled vision could see far beneath them (and remain mostly out of range of any stray crossbow shots). The entire mountain range stretched out below them. Varnus had disappeared somewhere near here..the stunted folk had to be close. Talon Leader Aryut could hear the loud vibrations of what sounded like drums, perhaps beating a line into formation? He swung towards the source of the sound, determined to find it's source.

(OOC Note: I'm not exactly sure if the dwarves are drumming or not..Jaymes said that the drums were 'unmuffled' when the dwarves departed the southern mountain exit..so I'm assuming they are and therefore creating lots of noise which my scouts can locate.)

-------------------------
Coronne
War Master Hulagu transfixed his gaze back onto the map of the southern mountain passes, he had sent Kulash with a small force to uncover the entrance to the Dwarven Kingdom. His mind was already turning towards the invasion of the under city...he would need all of his available forces mustered. This business with Mabiya would have to wait. A courier would be immediately dispatched towards to order Corba back to Coronne, he would need his light troops in the tightly packed mountain passes.

[ Since I'm forbidden from further mobilization yet..I'm just going to list where the Ezrian troops are primarily.]

Battle Master Corba:
Ezrian Mountains:
300 Light Infantry
300 Heavy Infantry
100 Heavy Cavalry

*obviously once news reaches Coronne of the invasion, these troops will consolidate.

Coronne:
1,400 Heavy Infantry
800 Heavy Cavalry
900 Light Cavalry
3 Catapults
2 Battering Rams
2 Siege Towers

Agrina:
900 Heavy Infantry
600 Heavy Cavalry
400 Light Infantry
800 Light Cavalry
2 Catapults

Eastern Frontier:
Battlemaster Corba
800 Light Infantry
700 Light Cavalry

SUMMARY:
Battlemaster Kulash deploys scouts ahead of his army to begin hunting for the entrance to the dwarven kingdom and guard against a possible ambush from Dwarven troops that may already be on the surface.

Preparing for the impending invasion of Everwinter, Hulagu sends a messanger to recall Battlemaster Corba from the East back to Coronne.

TACTICS:
If the Dwarven Army is found by the advance scouts, Kulash will look for a pass directly infront of the dwarves route of march where he can use his small numbers to maximum advantage and bottle them up (force the dwarves to come at him one unit at a time) OR terrain / other mountain passes leading around the dwarven force or to their flanks where he can ambush the long, straggling, Dwarven column and sow havoc amongst the vulnerable supply chain. A courier will also be dispatched to Coronne to warn of the invasion and ask for reinforcements.

King Casimir's War
Turn 2

Current Weather: Heavy snow on the ground. Small cloud cover.
Time: Nearing sunset.

The scout of the 3rd Dwarven Legion had mixed success for far regarding Avian scouts. Lightly armed but with a heavy crossbow and quiver, the Dwarven light infantry that were the proverbial vanguard had effectively killed four Avian scouts within only a few hours but had let more than a dozen enter their sight and slip away. The Avians knew they were coming. The 3rd Dwarven Legion was large and loud, but that was the Dwarven way. More than 6,000 Dwarves marched in a lengthy column with the rolling battering ram and wagon caravans in between the towering passes of the Ezrian Mountains. The Dwarves had been somewhat inaccurate in their weather assessment. Mother Nature was still in fighting mode and two feet of snow still covered most of the mountains.

Maps never changed, and the ancient maps indicated that Coronne, the capital city of the Avians was a full days journey (a day and a half from the Southern Entrance) from their current position. They would have to march up a small valley which led to an even wider valley, and from that valley need to head west to reach Coronne. The drumbeat kept the army in almost perfect unison, and the only oddities were when the occasional scout clambered back through the snow to let the General Sid know of particularities. Unfortunately, since the Dwarven scouts were so busy navigating a path through the mountains for their army and playing hide and seek with Avian scouts, the majority of them failed to notice the small Avian force at the sloping, snowy hill that indicated the end of the valley.

" General! General! " Scout Thulas couldn't move fast enough. He had been the one to spot them and whence he did all the other Dwarven scouts had stopped their advance. " 'Bout a thousand of them, just at the top of this hill! "

Battle Campaign (Mille Sessau) EzrianMountainChain
(This is the hill the Dwarves are marching up. Battlemaster Kulash and his forces stand at the top of this small, sloping hill.)
The Ezrian force tasked with locating the Dwarves Southern Entrance had actually located the Dwarven army. Ezrian scouts had long before found the huge column and reported the information to Battlemaster Kulash who had moved accordingly. Kulash ordered his Light and Heavy Infantry to form ranks at the top of the hill but a little ways back to avoid sticking out like a sore thumb. It was the smallest bottleneck offered by the route the Dwarves were taking. Avian scouts were looking for secondary and tertiary routes but so far none of those scouts had returned with promising news. Couriers had been sent to Agrina and Coronne.

From where Battlemaster Kulash stood (facing southward), behind him and to the north lay Agrina, the agricultural and physical heartland of Ezria. To the west of Agrina, in the hardier mountain chain, lay Coronne. Agrina would be the Dwarves' target, even if Coronne was their last goal, the Dwarves could march past Agrina but it would do them little good.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Battlemaster Corba received the courier's news and ordered his soldiers westward. They were hurried, but Corba would take flight with his light infantry and the cavalry would merely have to make all dust haste. Corba and his 800 Light Infantry would reach Agrina before the sun set, and if ordered they would continue on to Coronne or be ordered differently once the mass of flying troops reached Agrina.

NOTES:
-- The hill is wide enough to fit two companies abreast, meaning 600 soldiers across.
-- If the Republic of Ever-Winter decides to send his forces yo the hill to, a Battle will be commenced.
-- If a battle is not commenced, than consider the sun to be going down and both Avian and Dwarves SHOULD make camp due to harsh weather conditions, but they can continue to operate at higher risk of climate based casualties and accidents.

Dwarven Notes:
-- The supply chain will continue to supply the Dwarven 3rd Legion for six more ModMarks.
-- Although Agrina is a half days march away and just past the bottleneck valley they're in, their maps have no record of its existence.

Avian Notes:
-- Battlemaster Kulash and his forces can continue, unaided by supply trains and subsisting on foraging for two more ModMarks.
-- Battlemaster Corba and 800 Light Infantry arrive in Agrina.
-- 700 Light Cavalry will arrive in Agrina next ModMark.
-- The Kingdom of Ezria may now mobilize any and all troops.

Base of the Sloping Hill

General Sid had halted the 3rd Dwarven Legion as he contemplated their situation. Looking at the slopping hill the general called the commanders together. "We're taking the top. Our armies maintained the slow pace to accomadate the Cavalry, Caravans, and Seige Equipment. We'd have made further progress this day otherwise so our infantry shouldn't be too tired. If those birds up their sent word to Coronne tomorrow we could be facing a larger force and make this campaign a failure. We cannot let that happen."

Nodding in agreement the gruff looking Commander named Felix suggested, "The slope is wide enough to admit a tear marching abreast General. We should see about bringing the 7th and the 6th Heavy Infantry Tears to bear against those birds."

"Aye, the 7th will lead followed by the 6th. That'll be 600 heavily armed and armored Dwarves marching two deep up that hill. Have any crossbows they have given to the 3rd Light Infantry. They'll be some 20 paces behind. Any of those birds rise up you shoot them down. The 5th Light Infantry will be closer and fill and gaps should the Avians breach our assualting force."

Breathing in the chilly mountain air Sid then looked to the Commander Lusic, "Have the 5th Heavy Cavalry waiting behind the 3rd. If the Drums inform you charge through the gaps they'll open when they feel your approach." General Sid stated emphasizing as he stomped his foot on the ground. The cavalry's charge would send vibrations that even while fighting the dwarves would feel and make way for their fearsome charge.

Looking to the commanders of the 2nd and 7th Light Infantry tears Sid ordered, "When the main force reaches three quarters the way up the slope, and our crossbows keep those avians on the ground, I want your troops from the 2nd to climb their way up these left mountains and get to the enemies left flank. The 7th will do like wise on the right. We're dwarves, we don't need paths to march up a mountain. I'll hold the 1st Heavy Infantry in reserve with the 5th Heavy Cavalry sound the drums if they're needed." Sid finished with a smile then almost as if appologising, "The Light Cavalry tears unfortantely will be gaurding the caravans and the ram, this mountain pass would be the death of them."

Summery

-4 Companies of Heavy Infantry will march forward engaging the Avians. Behind them they'll have 2 Companies of Light Infantry for melee support. 2 more Companies of Light Infantry will be slightly further back watching the skies and shoot down any avians who rise into the air.

-The 2 Heavy Cavalry and remaining 2 Heavy Infantry Companies will wait to be called should the Cavalry be usefull or the Heavy Infantry be needed to support the main assualt.

-4 Companies of Light Infantry will scale the mountains and flank the avians at the top, 2 companies per each side. They'll begin their operation as soon as the main force gets 3/4 the way up the slope when the crossbow fire keeps the avians pinned down on the ground.

-Remaining Light Cavalry forces will remain behind gaurding the supplies and battering ram.

Battle Campaign (Mille Sessau) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Battle Campaign (Mille Sessau)   Battle Campaign (Mille Sessau) Icon_minitimeFri Feb 25, 2011 12:50 pm

Kulash's Stand:
Kulash had been stunned to say the least. The enemy had mobilized thousands of troops so fast..such a Dwarven force hadn't been seen on the surface since his father's time. His immediate concern was to begin buying time for the King to muster troops. Agrina the agricultural heartland of the country had to be protected at all costs from the dwarven horde, even if Kulash and his men had to sacrifice themselves. Kulash knew that if he could fortify his position, he stood a chance of throwing back repeated Dwarven assaults. That would give garrison troops stationed at Agrinna valuable time in reaching his forces. With the enemy found, Kulash had formed his troops up at the top of the hill to wait. His position was a strong one, the enemy could only send at best two regiments against him at once. The terrain on his flanks would guard against any maneuvers and hopefully make any attempt at doing so a slow one..by that time with darkness coming the enemy would hopefully have to withdraw and by dawn the troops from Agrina would be here..Or so the couriers told him. The fact that the hill was covered in such deep snow was also an advantage for the Avians, it would make marching upwards in battle formation difficult.

The elite and fanatical Kashig (Heavy Cavalry) mounted on their massive Gryphons were kept farther back and primarily out of sight. Kulash would use them to plug any gaps in the line if the dwarves managed to break through. The Nukur (Light Infantry) would use their powerful recurving bows to inflict a steady wave of casualties on the advancing dwarves if they pushed up the hill. Once they came within melee range, bows would be exchanged for swords, axes, and maces. The Baatur (Heavy Infantry) would be the rock of his formation. Their halberds capable of fending off mounted or infantry charges, they were lined up several ranks deep. A bristling wall of iron. With his defenses set, the couriers sent to warn Agrina and Coronne, the small Ezrian Army was ready to make it's stand. Every Ezrian on the battlefield knew what was at stake..their entire civilization and they would not let it fall to these inferior barbarians.

Battlemaster Corba:
Agrina:
Corba and his men had made haste to reach the city of Agrina, a continual stream of messengers had reached him informing of the situation and urging him onto the city of Agrina with all due haste. From Agrina, he could see that preparations were already being made to reinforce Kulash and counterattack the Everwinter troops. 400 additional light infantry had already been gathered and prepared to march by the time he had arrived. Corba immediately absorbed them into his formation. With time of the essence Corba and his now 1,200 light infantry took to the sky once more to reinforce Kulash's position. Meanwhile, the entire remaining garrison at Agrina was preparing to march to Kulash's rescue.

Battle Master Corba:
1,200 Light Infantry

Agrina Garrison Force:
900 Heavy Infantry
600 Heavy Cavalry
800 Light Cavalry

War Master Hulagu:
At Coronne, War Master Hulagu under the orders of King Casimir himself was readying his forces to meet the Dwarven Army before they reached Ezria's heartland. Hulagu understood the strategic significance of defending Agrina, it could not fall. His army now fully mobilized moved to link up with his troops already stationed at Agrina and from there push on to meet the enemy.

Force Size:
1,300 Heavy Infantry
600 Heavy Cavalry
700 Light Cavalry

Summary:
Battlemaster Kulash prepares his men to hold the hilltop position at all costs. Corba arrives at Agrina, taking command of an additional 400 light infantry before pushing to reinforce Battlemaster Kulash. The remaining garrison at Agrina follows behind on foot. War Master Hulagu leads a second force from Coronne towards Agrina and from there to Kulash.

King Casimir's War
Turn 3

The Battle of Agrina Commons ended in a minor Dwarven victory, but a psychological victory for the Ezrians. They had staved off the Dwarves from reaching Agrina for at least another day and a half. The sun had began to droop into the crescent of the edge of the world, and Battlemaster Kulash would be hard pressed himself to link up with Battlemaster Corba and reach Agrina by morning, but they did not have the luxury of setting up camp or tending their wounded. They retreated from the small bottleneck and swept downward into the huge open valley. At the very heart of the valley, at it's very core was the Ezrian agricultural townsend of Agrina. It would be a hard pressed march back to the cities for Battlemaster Kulash and his wounded troops.

The Dwarven 3rd Legion had met the Ezrian's on their own terms and won, spirits were high. Although none of the Dwarves fighting had been there, they all knew and understood that the last time the Republic and the Kingdom of Ezria had met, the Ezrians had been defeated as well. It was quickly turning to night, and the small cadre of Dwarven lieutenants and captains that flanked General Sid proclaimed their desire to establish camp at the top of the hill to tend wounded and wait out the cold of the night. It would be possible to press on, but the frigid temperatures and harsh descent into the Ezrian valley would not be easy to conquer.

NOTES:
-- Battlemaster Kulash and Battlemaster Corba will reach Agrina at the next ModMark.
-- General Hulagu will reach Agrina in three ModMarks.
-- This ModMark indicates the sun has set. The sun will rise at the next ModMark.
-- The supply chain will continue to supply the Dwarven 3rd Legion for five more ModMarks.

General Sid ecohed their desires to set up camp before night was fully upon them, "Drummer, infom Commander Felix that the troops at the top are to take the dead, Avian and Dwarven alike and move them away from our camp site so it can be established. Any of those Avians still alive make sure their gaurded but treated properly. We'll mask the scent of death so the stench will not tolerable. Have those Tears and companies down hear help the Caravans up the slope."

The drummer noded and then sent out the orders with a swift beat

Clear the hill of the dead for our camp. Troop at the bottom aid the caravans up the slope. Any of the rare honorable Avians alive tend to.

"I'll have the 1st Heavy Infantry Tear break down 3/4's of the empty caravans and make a pyre of sorts The rest will be used for wounded. The When we leave in the morning the dead of both armies will be honored in this open sky. When we return we'll take some ashes and bury them in the stone as is our custom." Sid stated honoring his enemies for their brave stand a day away from their city Coronne.

At the top of the hill

Commander Felix walked to a nearby dead Avian soldier. Looking over the creatures armor he attempted to find some insignia of which troop he was in. The commander of the Avians was a intelligent man who knew when and where to fight. The dwarves respected this in their opponent especially one who valued the lives of his men. Purhaps those birds had begun to change after all.

If any of those creatures survived the dwarves looked forward to talking to them. Maybe they'd tell us something of their customs so we know more about whom we fight.

Some time later

The 3rd Dwarven Legion had set up camp at the hill top. The warriors who had fought for the hill were already feed and asleep while those who weren't able to participate due to the terrian of the mountain were still being feed, and some would find themselves as sentries within the camp as well as along the perimeter.

The dwarves had learned long ago that the Avian's ability of flight allowed them to sneak into camps a great deal easier and had learned this lesson the hard way long ago when Avians had destroyed their caravans and a large portion of their food supply during the first war. Even with the caravans and supplies in the middle of the camp the dwarves were uneasy with an open sky above them knowing that such tactics could prove fatal to the campaign.

Summery:

-3rd Dwarven Legion camp is set up at the top of the hill and sentries placed within the camp as well as the perimeter of the camp.

-3/4 of the empty caravans are used to make a pyre for the fallen dead Avians and Dwarves alike who fought for the hill which will be started as the dwarves leave in the morning.

-The dwarves beleive the Avians who fought here to be a rarity among their kind. Many hope to fight against the commander of the small force again in the future thoough on more even terms.

-Any wounded Dwarves or Captured Avians who were wounded will be put in the remaining empty caravans tomorrow when they march to ease their pains during the travel. Both will be tended to though only the Avians will be under gaurd.

(OOC: My Dwarves have the Honorable trait. They beleive that the opposing commander due to the area of battle and when they retreated is a wise and honorable man. Willing to delay the Dwarves approach on Coronne but not so fanatical about it to waste lives upon seeing the battle was lost. Dwarves begin to have some respect for this commander.

Also Avain dude can you provide some description of anything that says this group is commanded by Battlemaster Kulash cuz I might not find a live Avian who can tell me anything about them would like to know like a symbol or insignia for RP's(seein as I can't hurt them cuz honorable trait Smile))

Hilltop:
The battle for the hilltop had been a short, bloody, and brutal affair. A few hundred had fought against thousands and while they had been handily defeated, it wasn't a fight that had been fought in vain. For the Dwarves sifting through the dead or rounding up any survivors they would find the Royal double headed eagle emblazoned on breastplates and weapons but a different sort of crest would have been found on any dead officers alongside the Royal colors, an etching of a massive Phoenix. The emblem of House Kulash.

Agrina:
Despite the fact that the Ezrian's had been pushed off the ridge, morale was relatively high from the Ezrian Army. A small Ezrian detachment had bravely staunched the massive enemy force, frustrating their progress and buying badly needed time for the soldiers to mobilize. The next time the Ezrian and Republican armies met on the battlefield, it would be on much more even terms. Already 700 additional light cavalry had arrived from the East, the last of Battlemaster Corba's force that had set out for Mabiyan plains only to turn around and make a fast march back East to hold back the Dwarven tide.

The fight for the city of Agrina was about to take place, the Agrinian Garrison had been dispatched at the cities outskirts..determined to hold them back. Every military resource was being mustered within the Kingdom, even two massive catapults had been dragged out from the depths of the city to be used as field artillery. It had seemed like every corner of Ezria had turned out for the battle. Priests from the holy city of Matrija to give prayers for the coming battle, nobleman from the palace courts at Coronne, and Avians of peasant stock from the fields of Agrina. Every class was represented, as one the Ezrian people came together to push the Dwarves back into the holes they had crawled out of and avenge an ancient defeat.

Soon, even the War Master himself would be here with even more troops. If the Dwarves wanted Agrina, they would pay in blood. All eyes looked towards the mountains, eager for a sight of Battlemaster Kulash's soldiers whom had so bravely held the line. Soon, they would see the man and his troops for themselves. Once Kulash's tired troops arrived they would be given time to rest and dress their wounds. They had to be ready however for the inevitable. The Ezrian Army needed every soldier. The Dwarves had no idea what they were marching into nor the size of the force in front of them. Scouts had already been sent forward to hunt for the perfect ground to meet the dwarves at.

Current Agrina Forces:
(counting Kulash and Corba's troops when they arrive)
Commanding Officer: Kulash (until Hulagu arrives)
1,190 Heavy Infantry
672 Heavy Cavalry
1,339 Light Infantry
1,500 Light Cavalry
2 Catapults

Summary:
The Agrina Garrison soon to be reinforced by Corba, Kulash, and Hulagu gather several miles outside the outskirts of the city. Scouts are sent forward to hunt for the best possible ground to engage the dwarves.

King Casimir's War
Turn 4

The Ezrians were notably better off than the Dwarves. Although a huge pyre was built to keep the Legion warm, a few succumbed to the harsh winter. It was unlike the warm earth from which they had come. Although a few did pass on to the Stone, the night was without incident. Dwarves attempted to warm themselves by the fire as lieutenants and General Sid conversed in hastily erected tents with snow piling up outside them. There had been no survivors of the Ezrians, although a few reports reached General Sid that the Dwarves had found a winged survivor, the same reports indicated the Ezrian killed himself a few moments after being discovered by cutting his own throat.

The morning light bright brought redemption for the Dwarven 3rd Legion. Guards forced the waist high snow from around their tents and soldiers had already started to carve a path forward. They marched as the sun rose and cast a bright reflection across the powder white snow. They marched at a whimperingly slow pace as the stout but stocky Dwarves fought the new snowmounds as they descended the other side of the small hilltop. Although they knew the Ezrians had obviously fled this way, any notion of their passing had been wiped away in the blizzard of the previous night. It was as if this particular realm was untouched. As the sun rose, and so it began it's descent, the snow weakened and became thinner. The sunset ushered in the disappearance of snow and in its plain became fertile grassland. They passed a few small farms, abandonded by the looks of them, and there in the distance the city sat. It wasn't on any Dwarven maps, but the few birdlike figures soaring high above it, as well as it's vertical birdlike architecture gave credence to its owners.

The Ezrians had time to lick their wounds, although only just a day. Those who battled at Agrina Commons were rested but only just. Many were bandaged from Dwarven crossbolts or axes, and the Heavy Cavalry as a a whole unit was somewhat disappointed at their lack of effectiveness in the charge. Still, the martial prowess of the Ezrian was evident as many citizens gave up their own foodstores and houses for the soldiers to share. The King had not ordered his people from Agrina, even at the expense of total annihilation and this did the soldiers well. They could see who they were fighting for now.

Notes
-- Battlemaster Corba & Battlemaster Kulash reached Agrina and have had a Low amount of rest.
-- General Hulagu will arrive in two ModMarks.
-- It is now sunset.
-- The supply caravan will support the 3rd Dwarven Legion for four more ModMarks.
-- The Dwarven 3rd Legion can choose to attack now (at sunset) or wait another night.

"No wonder why they fought so valiantly at the pass. They're protecting this fertile land and that city." Commander Felix stated as he limped into one of the few tents that was being assembled. Pounding his chest with his fist as he stood at attention Commander Felix then took the last empty stool.

"We'll hold off attacking this new city, the unexpected blizzard slowed our travel considerablely I suspect any reinforcements from Coronne would be similarly delayed if they arent already here. Fortunatly this valley seems to be protected from such weather by the sheer heights that surround it." the General stated

Commander Clearstone of the 5th Heavy Cavalry Tear provided, "With the fertile farm land we'll not have to feed the horses. We may even find food stores if we look prolonging our campaign. When will the republic be sending additional supplies?" the dwarvf questioned.

General Sid answered, "Well three days out which would be tomorrow evening they'll have it prepared and send it our way. If we were turned back before then we'd have failed to breach the Death Trap Pass yesturday and have been home in the Republic by that time. I beleive another Heavy Infantry Tear will be sent along with a Company of Light Infantry to gaurd the caravans journey. As for searching the outlaying farmsteads I agree. If food is found then it'll help feed our armies. With the weak defense of Death Trap Pass those birds couldn't have cleared all this land of food. Have the 2nd and 7th Light Infantry Tears look for food."

Taking a drink of water from his waterskin Sid then ordered, "I want the companies of the 4th Light Cavalry Tear to partol. Keep out of the Avians reach but make sure they don't attempt to assualt us if they do I want to be forwarned. When night falls they can return to the camp, make sure they eat before heading out naturally though. Tonight the 1st Heavy Infantry Tear and the 5th Light Infantry Tear will take their turns with the watch."

Summery:

-Camp is made for the night.

-Two companies of Light Cavalry are to patrol and keep an eye on the Avians to make sure no attack by them will take place. Should one happen they're to warn the 3rd Dwarven Legion.

-2nd and 7th Light Infantry Tears (4 Light Infantry Companies) are to search the surrounding area for edible food.

-1st Heavy Infantry Tear and 5th Light Infantry Tear (2 Companies of Heavy Infantry and two companies of Light Infantry) will be rotating their men throughout the night for the night sentries/watchmen.

-Suggests that the 3rd Dwarven Legion has more supplies coming after three days. Three days being the limit of either returning from a defeat at Death Trap Pass so no need to send supplies or a victory at Death Trap Pass which the Republic won't see the army and will send more supplies to keep the 3rd Dwarven Legion well stocked.

The fact that the enemy did not choose to attack was a boon to Kulash's battered troops that had fought at the pass. His exhausted men would get a night's rest before the Ezrian's would line up for battle formation in the morning. However, Kulash was keenly aware that an army marched on it's stomach. The deeper the enemy moved into Ezria, the hungrier he would become as supply lines grew longer and more thinly held.

The best option, if Kulash was in the enemy commanders position was to forage for food. Agrina was primarily a bastion for cereal crops, and the Spring planting would not occur for at least another week. The bulk of the local farmsteads had fled into Agrina when news of the Dwarven armies arrival had come with whatever food stores they had..still there we're things such as any livestock that the grubby Dwarves could steal from the local farms.

To counteract this, Kulash had prepared a nasty surprise for any Dwarven foraging teams that ventured from their camp. A Light Infantry regiment had dispatched several scouts to lie in wait in the grasses, with night soon approaching and combined with their excellent night vision, they would have an easy opportunity to hunt for foraging parties leaving the protection of the strong encampment and relay their position back his 'hunting parties' made up of a regiment of mobile light infantry and light cavalry.

Meanwhile, Hulagu would arrive by morning the couriers suggested. For now, his best hope was to wait and then when War Master Hulagu arrived unleash a counterattack to drive the Dwarve's back. The bulk of his troops would be well rested from their ordeal..and his pickets would hunt for any sign of Dwarven movement. Regardless, the Ezrian army would be moving by dawn to prepare for battle.

Summary:
The Ezrian Army dispatches troops to disrupt Dwarven foraging parties.

300 Light Infantry
300 Light Cavalry

A picket will rotate two regiments of Heavy Infantry to watch for Dwarven movements.

TACTICS:
The Ezrian Army is not looking to provoke a full fledged battle, only to harass isolated dwarven units. If a major dwarven attack is launched by other units in the encampment (such as its light cavalry) Ezrian troops will withdraw back to Ezrian lines.

King Casimir's War
Turn 5

The agriculture discovered by foraging Dwarven soldiers was found to be wholly inadequate. The majority of the crops growing in the Agrinan fields were small berries and nuts, which although consumable by the Dwarven legionnaires was inadequate to keep them supplied. To continue foraging would be a whole hearted waste energy. The soldiers thus began to return to their encampment at the base of the hill, just south of the city of Agrina. The lack of snow in the Agrinan valley gave the campaign a different feel. It was still below freezing but the entirety of the valley was covered in sweeping green fields instead of endless white stretches of tundra.

The spread out Dwarven soldiers, mostly maneuvering in flocks of three and four did not come back unscathed however. A half dozen small skirmishes broke out as Ezrian light infantry voiced their presence and sprouted from the tall grass and fruit stalks with their blades raised high. Their caws were a credence to the defense of the city, and many Dwarves were cut down in the initial onslaught but the majority of the Dwarven scouting parties made it back, one entire party of eight Dwarves were cut down by a gryphon Light Cavalry charge that as quickly as it came retreated back into the darkness with thundering hooves. Any attempts at a Dwarven counter attack whole heartedly failed as their slower company movements allowed the Ezrians to retreat with ease into the darkness.

The rest of the night went by without incident, and a few hours later the rising sun barked light into the valley and allowed both enemies to finally see their opposition. It was a cloudless day, the sun shone bright and as the sun rise directly over the valley the temperature finally rose just above freezing.

Notes
-- Battlemaster Corba & Battlemaster Kulash have had a Moderate amount of rest.
-- No word on the second Dwarven supply caraven yet.
-- General Hulagu will arrive in one ModMarks.
-- The supply caravan will support the 3rd Dwarven Legion for three more ModMarks.
-- It is now sunrise.

Casualties

Kingdom of Ezria
14 Light Infantry
3 Light Cavalry

Republic of Ever-Winter
21 Light Infantry

With the sun shining clearly it provided excellent view of the opposing forces that were prepared for battle. The dwarves had woken early in the morning to get in proper positions for the battle to come. The short march from their camp has warmed the Dwarves bodies. Many were silent knowing that the battle between Dwarves and Avians would be a gruesome and hard fought one both sides.

General Sid had order the 3rd Dwarven Legion to march towards the enemies own forces. The cavalry would crash into the Avian’s formation with ground shaking force. Behind them the Heavy Infantry would be following closely so they could step in and take advantage of the weakness the charge would hopefully exploit. When they did the cavalry of the dwarves would fall back regrouping and preparing to assist where need or make another charge into the enemy’s ranks.

The weakened 7th Heavy Infantry Tear would be split up into its respective companies to reinforce the flanks while the 7th Light Infantry Tear would reinforce the middle ensuring that the ranks of Dwarven Heavy Infantry didn’t crumble in the middle.

The outcome of this plan would be seen soon. Unfortunately the 2nd Light Infantry Tear wouldn’t be able to participate in the battle. They were still at camp guarding it and keeping it safe from any possible Avian threat.

The Drums of war could be heard throughout the valley. They called the cadence for when the dwarves awoke and when the dwarves marched to meet their ancient enemy. With a full days battle ahead of the two opposing sides time would tell who would be the victory of this day.

Summery

-3rd Dwarven Legion marches off to war in formation.

-2nd Light Infantry Tear remains at camp to guard wounded and supplies.

The morning light of dawn would reveal that the Ezrian Royal Army had drawn itself up for battle. Sunlight glinted off swords, shields, and armor. Banners flapped in the breeze, revealing the standards of Battlemaster Kulash and the Imperial Eagle. The center of the Ezrian battle line was composed of heavy infantry, on the flanks were the heavy and light cavalry. Behind the center line were the light infantry, acting as missile troops and a mobile reserve if Kulash needed to plug a hole.

The biggest artillery piece in the Ezrian army (also behind the center line for it's protection) were the two catapults. Each had been loaded with stone that weighed several hundred pounds. The crash of weapons against shields echoed across the battlefield, caws rose from thousands of throats. A direct challenge to the Dwarven force to engage in combat. Kulash had no intention of going on the offensive just yet, the current troops at his disposal we're still slightly outnumbered..when Hulagu arrived, the War Master would have the men needed to overwhelm the Dwarven Legion. Or so that was the hope. For now, Kulash was content to hammer the enemy with his superior long range firepower.

'' CATAPAULTS! Focus on the Dwarven heavy infantry. FIRE. '' Kulash roared. Two massive whoops seconds later would send the huge stone boulders reeling towards their targets. Meanwhile, the Ezrian light infantry began unleashing volley upon volley of arrows on the Dwarven troops as they advanced. As the Dwarven cavalry rushed towards the center composed of the Ezrian heavy infantry, weapons were raised to present a forest of glinting spears and halberds for the Dwarven cavalry to impale themselves on. The line would no doubt stagger from the impact of the charge but the Ezrian line was stacked several ranks deep (hopefully allowing it to hold out against the impact). Kulash was prepared to commit additional light infantry to any gaps that broke through the ranks. Once the Dwarven heavy infantry entered the fray, both Ezrian cavalry forces would lead their own charges into the flanks of the Dwarven units now all jammed up in attacking the Ezrian center, while the Ezrian heavy infantry in the center line kept the Dwarven troops occupied allowing the Ezrian's to squeeze the Dwarven force from three sides.

Ezrian Flanks:
Right flank: composed of 372 heavy cavalry and 750 light cavalry
Left flank: composed of 300 heavy cavalry 747 light cavalry

[Nice graphic btw]

King Casimir's War
Turn 6

The Battle of Agrina was hard fought but over by midday. The Ezrians had won on the fortune of a mistake made by the Republican General, not by their own tactical prowess. Both sides were bloodied and battered but the Dwarven 3rd Legion was only a fighting shell of its former glory. They had started their retreat, Dwarves being cut down from the backside and Avians being sideswiped from their own greedy attempts to kill just one more Dwarf. The armies slowly demagnetized and pulled away from each other, with the 3rd Legion pulling back to the base of Death Trap Pass to meet up with the six hundred Dwarven soldiers who had not participated in the battle.

The Ezrians were now adding to their army with reinforcements from the capital led by General Hulagu. Agrina was still safe, for now. King Casimir's War was still in effect, and both nations were still poised at one another's throats. The next moves were up to General Hulagu and General Oaks.

Notes
-- All soldiers except for 600 Dwarven Light Infantry and all of General Hulagu's forces are now Extremely Tired.
-- The Legion's supply caravan will arrive in two ModMarks.
-- It is midday.

'' Another Dwarven Legion? '' Battlemaster Kulash said incredulously. The mood of the Council of War went from elated to dismal at the news. A tent had been erected near the battle site, War Master Hulagu, Battle Master Kulash and Corba along with staff officers had been gathered to plan the armies next move. '' Even if their were no Dwarven reinforcements, I would not recommend pushing on to attack them General. Our own men are exhausted and barely held on. We should ask for more troops from Coronne for a counterattack. Until then I believe we should hold Agrina, retreat behind the walls. It will take time for the Dwarve's to re-organize. If we become too ambitious, we will squander the victory we have gained. If they come, they will break on the walls. From what I saw of the Dwarven equipment, they lacked even catapults and siege towers. Without such equipment, Agrina is impregnable.''

'' If only I had arrived sooner...'' Hulagu growled. He had squandered his chance to encircle and destroy the Dwarven army like he had envisioned, instead they had managed to escape before the jaws of his trap could be shut. Every instinct in Hulagu was screaming for him to go on the attack, but Kulash spoke words of caution. The defenses at Agrina were the strongest in the country, the Dwarve's more than likely lacked the provisions and equipment for a long siege. If the Army retreated behind the walls then they would grow stronger by the day. Hulagu's gaze swept the Council before his hard voice spoke. '' If we did move to attack and put the remnant of the Dwarven Army to flight, we wouldn't be able to hold the pass. Not for long at any rate. We shall move behind the walls of Agrina and prepare for a siege. I will ask for more troops from the King. ''

'' Shall we take prisoners War Master? '' The Ezrian's were still sorting through the dead and wounded, their might still be Dwarve's that had been left behind. '' Capture them, bring them within the city. They will be useful bargaining chips for the King should he need them. '' Hulagu answered. '' Finish collecting the dead and putting them on the pyre and then begin moving the army immediately. ' The officers broke up to see to their orders and within a few hours, the Ezrian army would begin pushing behind the walls of Agrina. The heavy gates crashing shut behind them. Meanwhile, a courier had been dispatched to Coronne to request more troops for a counterattack.

Summary:
-Reasoning that he will not be able to hold Death Trap Pass, even should he take it..War Master Hulagu had grudgingly elected to pull back to Agrina and use its massive walls to his advantage instead of pursuing with his exhausted troops until he has gathered enough forces to take the war to the Dwarves.

-If found on the battlefield, Dwarven prisoners will be taken.

-Couriers are sent to Coronne requesting reinforcements for a counterattack.

Reinforcements (once the courier has reached Coronne, the following will be dispatched):
8 catapults
900 Heavy Cavalry
600 Light Cavalry
900 Heavy Infantry
1,200 Skirmishers
1,500 Light Infantry

Battle Campaign (Mille Sessau) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Battle Campaign (Mille Sessau)   Battle Campaign (Mille Sessau) Icon_minitimeFri Mar 25, 2011 10:39 am

A few brave dwarves seeing their kinsmen being cut down in their retreat stopped and turned. They faced the enemy figthing with a rage that was unmatched by any pursers. They fought to the death as did any dwarf who remained behind. They would not fall victim to Avian attempts of capture and have the location of the Republic's entrances revealed to the birds. None knew that the Avian's already knew where both the South and North Entrances were located.

As the retreating 3rd reached their camp the 2nd Light Infantry took up watch while they rest of the 3rd saw to their wounds. Geneal Sid used a telescope to see if the enemy pursued them. They hadn't, but neither had they allowed the Dwarves to retire from the feild. His commanders nearby waiting for orders Sid passed the telescope, "They've begun to retreat into their walled city. We'll need more Dwarves as well as better Seige Equipment to crack that nut." Sid informed then with a sudden bout of rage slamed his hammer into the ground, "Damn it all to hell. The defeat was my blunder. We've been at peace for far too long and in our complacentcy forgotten important tactics and strategies. I haven't learned the proper tactics otherwise we probably could have won that, though these crows have been at war the whole time so their skills haven't dulled like ours."

The other commanders said nothing they too felt the shame of defeat at the hands of the Avians. The Commanders informed the status of their units all which had suffered some form of loss and all whom were tired from the fighting. "We'll stay here for tonight I want the majority of the 2nd Beserker Tear (LI) to relax but keep a token force watching those walls, they'll be the ones on gaurd duty tonight. The rest of the 3rd will be resting."

Commander Felix spoke aloud the thoughts running in his head, "It's almost time to plant crops General Sid. A lot more mouths to feed in the city now with all those warriors and Avians from this surrounding land. The store within the city would be getting low..." he let his words sink in.

"Aye, we'll have to move our battle elsewhere if we're to avoid civilians falling ill..." Frowning the General picked up his hammer, "Well it's not planting time just yet when it is we'll move our conflict back to the pass. Stopping a Corporal from the 2nd Beserker Tear (LI) the General ordered, "Come with me son, you'll be taking the men under your command with you back to the Republic with a message. Our sole runners are returning so we'll need a group to go."

Walking to his tent with the Corporal following the General wrote a short sweat to the point letter to Thanes and Regent asking for Seige equipment as well as more men. The supplies come to the front should also have three Tears of Infantry two of which would be joining the 3rd but the 3rd would require additional dwarves to succeed. The letter included a breif update on the current happenings of the war from the Generals perspective.

Summery

-Dwarves didn't wish to be interrogated and have the chance of them revealing entrances. Any lost or left behind due to the nature of the retreat fought and did not surrender. (OOC: Weather they were disarmed and how bad their injuries are is up to moderator of course)

-Seeing no pursuit the 3rd Legion will rest for the remaining day. the 2nd Beserker Tear (LI) will be the night watch while only a few are watching the walls and entrance to the city for activity.

-Dwarves agree that moving the battle elsewhere when it's planting time is best. Civilian casualties will not be on their conscience.

-Request for reinforcements and an update of the war from the General's perspective is sent with 25 LI to ensure the message reaches home.

Requested Reinforcements:
10 Catapults
3 Seige Towers
1,200 Skirmishers
900 Heavy Infantry

(OOC: Not sure if the Requested Reinforcements get approved right away but the Republic's only gonna approve 900 Skirmishers 2 Seige Towers, 10 Catapults, and an additional 300 Heavy Infantry; besides the 600 Light Infantry and 600 Heavy Infantry that are already joining the 3rd Dwarven Legion via the supply caravan's whenever they arrive.

The other 600 Light Infantry with the supply caravans will take any number of men that don't add up to a company and return home with empty caravans. So they'll have their 600 LI plus 67 LI ((was 92 but 25 left heading home with the request making it drop to 67)), 110 HI, 4 LC, and 53 HC according to Battle of Agrina's Forces section. Hope it's not too confusing)

King Casimir's War
Turn 7

The battle was over, but the war was not. The fortress at Death Trap Pass had been nearly completed at about the same time the caravan began leaving with the wounded Dwarven units. The courier also left with the requested reinforcements from General Sid but it would take a few days for the note to reach the Republic and a response (perhaps in the form of reinforcements) to be sent back. Both armies now had a defensible location. The Dwarves were resupplied and could fight for at least two more weeks as well as possessing a sizable fortress at the top of the pass, though it's outer walls were still being built.

The position on the Ezrian side was commendable. The walls around Agrina had been erected and the only thing still vulnerable were Agrina's crops (Foodstuff Resource Node) which helped feed the Avian people. The Battle of Agrina had taken place right amidst these huge fields.

Notes:
-- Next ModMark the Dwarven Fortress will be complete.
-- It is now the beginning of Day 4.
-- The "Request for Reinforcements" will reach the Republic at Day 6.
-- The Republic of Ever-Winter's Reinforcements will arrive at Day 5.
-- The Kingdom of Ezria's Reinforcements from Coronne will arrive at Day 6.

The Ezrian Royal Army hadn't been idle, in addition to more manpower being sent to the city from Coronne, additional foodstuffs had been ordered to ensure that Agrina could last a prolonged siege. War Master Hulagu had watched the fortifications at the top of the mountain being built over the last two days. It was a troubling development but the fortress had yet to be complete, even if it was the reinforcement's from Coronne would bring much needed firepower. An additional 8 catapults. If it was finished by the time his troops arrived, Hulagu would have the forces needed to push them out of the valley. Work would continue to feed the Kingdom, war or no. Field hands were released from the gates within the pre-dawn hours to sow the fields with seed and ensure that a new harvest could be brought in. The Dwarve's occupied the mouth of the valley, but the valley was massive and the battlefield only a small chunk of it. Soldiers patrolled the area to ensure that the enemy wouldn't attack the civilians but the Dwarve's were far too 'honorable' for that. At dusk the civilians would be allowed back within the city and those massive steel gates would slam shut behind them. The soldiers guarding the group every step of the way, the Ezrian's closely monitored the Dwarve's to ensure that their were no movements to attack the city. Thus far, the enemy had yet to stir.

Ultimately the Dwarven position was untenable. They couldn't hold the pass forever and if the Dwarve's did make the first move, Hulagu was confident that he could hold them with Agrina's new walls. But as of the present moment it was a stalemate. Neither side wanted to come out from behind it's defenses until they had the adequate manpower. The waiting game would end in Ezria's favor though, that the War Master was certain. In the interim, he had dispatched his light cavalry to act as scouts to see if they could find any weaknesses in the Dwarven lines and to harass any Dwarven foraging parties that ventured down from the pass.

Summary:

-War Master Hulagu prepares to launch his counter offensive, field hands sow the fields with seed to begin the planting season while under heavy guard.

-500 LC are dispatched from Agrina to scout the Dwarven line, study the terrain for any natural advantages, and ensure that the civilian population was protected from Dwarven raids.

The 3rd Dwarven Legion was informed of the Cavalry coming out of the city of Agrina fortunately from the past days scour of the country side General Sid didn't order and forging parties out of the camp. The 3rd was staying within their camp with enough troops surrounding the camp to prevent any hit and run attmepts on the 3rd from succeeding by the Avians.

The Commanders and General were holding a meeting while the Captains saw to their units need. The previous day's battle was a hard fought one and some of the units were still recovering. Felix stated, "I suggest we pull back from the base of the pass tomorrow morning General Sid. The Fortress should be completed by the time we arrive at nightfall. It took us a day to march down, no doubt it'll take us a full day to march back. The elevation of the slope will enable our own ranged units that will be joining us to have superier range. The enemies catapults used yesturday would have to approach closer to the Fortress because of the difference in elevation while our at the top can rain fire and pain upon them as they get into position."

"Aye, the placement of the Fortress will work to our advantage. We'll be able to see them approaching and there formation as they come up the slope and as Commander Felix stated our ranged combatants, when they arrive at the fortress, will be able to engage the Crows before their own ranged combatants, can return the favor. Though the Cavalry won't be of much use in this pass. Have them begin their journey to the fortress now and join up with our reinforcements and supplies at the top. The rest of the 3rd Dwarven Legion will leave first thing in the morning. We'll have a head start on them Crows even if they send they're cavalry without infantry support to catch us." Sid commented with a grin.

Summery:

-3rd Dwarven Legion remains at the camp discussing options for future engagements knowing the Avians have to engage them due to the large agricultural area (Foodstuff Resource Node) near Agrina being threatened by their presence.

-All cavalry within the 3rd Dwarven Legion begin marching towards the work in progress Fortress at Death Trap Pass. There, they'll meet up with the Caravans and reinforcements and hold position.

King Casimir's War
Turn 8

No more blood would be spilled on the fourth day. The Avians began planting further crops while gryphon mounted light cavalry roamed near the base of the mountain looking for wandering or foraging Dwarves. None to be found. The 3rd Dwarven Legion's cavalry had moved up the base of the hill and into the newly completed fortress. It stood in stark contrast to the walled city of Agrina, which, unlike the architecture of the Avians, sat low and squatted to the ground. It had large metal gates, but its walls could be damaged, perhaps even destroyed by catapults. The battlefield was still strewn with hundreds of Avian and Dwarven dead, a sight which soured the eyes of both armies. The sun had begun its long descent into the west and as the sun was eclipsed by the horizon, torches were lit on both sides to help ensure continued visibility in both camps.

The 3rd Legion's remaining troops remained at the base of the hill along with General Sid Oaks. Small contigents of troops burned fires to keep warm and General Sid and his other officers discussed tactics at a nearby table.

Notes
-- The Dwarven Fortress is now complete.
-- It is now the end of Turn 8.
-- The "Request for Reinforcements" will reach the Republic at Turn 9.
-- The Republic of Ever-Winter's Reinforcements will arrive at Day 10.
-- The Kingdom of Ezria's Reinforcements from Coronne will arrive at Day 11.
-- No casualties were reported.

The activity seemed to be increasing from the city of Agrina as farmers went about their daily tasks, funeral pyres could be seen throughout the night. It would take days to burn all the bodies to ash, the stench of cooked Dwarven meat made the Birdfolk gag. There were still more bodies to be collected. War Master Hulagu had no intention of venturing out from behind his walls without his reinforcements. He imagined the Dwarve's had something of a similar mindset. They seemed keen on not forcing a battle and Hulagu wasn't inclined to give them one yet. The troops from Coronne had to arrive soon.

The scouts had brought him a valuable report, the walls at the fortress while seemingly formidable could undoubtedly be broken by catapults, the towers on each wall meant that only a limited number of archers could fire upon his men as they climbed the hill. It seemed the fortifications were not strong enough to support actual men on the walls. Hulagu and Kulash both agreed that an assault yet would leave the result uncertain. It was best to wait for the fresh troops, additional firepower would mean that they could suppress whatever the Dwarve's hurled at them.

Summary:
-Funeral pyres for the dead are lit in the distance from Agrina city.

-Hulagu and Kulash wait for troops.

[might be a good idea to fast forward to day six unless Jaymes is planning a major offensive on day 5. ]

General Sid Oaks and the other commanders had finally decided upon a corse of action after the 3rd Dwarven Legion had a full days rest. As night fell the 3rd muffled their armor and weapons making sure it was too dark for any Avian scouts in the air to see their preperations. As soon as this was complete they left the camp, with the battering ram in hand, under the cover of darkness leaving behind 600 Beserkers (LI) to gaurd the camp.

Using the cover of night they silently approached the walls of Agrina hoping to be pounding at the gate with the battering ram and breaking it open so that the center, comprised of the remaining Dragon Scale Shields (HI), could flow into the city followed by the flanking Beserker Companies (LI) surprising the enemy.

All the dwarves knew the plan. They were to approach silently, much easier without the cavalry for the horses would have given them away, and hope to knock down the gate before the enemy was fully aware. Should an alarm sound the soldiers would make their way towards the wall with all do haste. The closer they got to the fortifications surrounding Agrina the less likely a catapults stone would be able to fire without hitting their own people and their own fortifications.

Summery:

-600 Light Infantry gaurding Camp

-Using the cover of darkness the 3rd Dwarven Legion attempts to breach Agrina with the battering ram and take the enemy by surpirse. Heavy Infantry are in the middle Light Infantry on the flanks. Battering Ram in the middle to open the gate for the Elite Heavy Infantry.

-Should alarms sound the 3rd is to get closer to the walls with all due haste. Catapults on the other side should have a minimum rage do the fortifications obstructing their fire.

(OOC: Are Heavy Infatnry called swordsmens now? Likewise are Light Infantry considered Warriors now?)

King Casimir's War
Turn 9

The Ezrian Auxiliary Force had traveled with great haste from Coronne and arrived on the Agrinan Plains only hours too late. As they descended from the Western Mountain Chain to enter the Agrinan Plains, the remnants of an Ezrian Light Cavalry Company hailed them. Many of them were wounded, some of the gryphons carried two riders and many of the soldiers' armor and weaponry was haggard. They told of their retreat at the behest of the Dwarven push into the city and the Cavalry Commander told the Battlemaster of the Ezrian Auxiliary Force that the Nukur had been defeated and he had called a tactical retreat. He was scolded for his dishonorable retreat. His soldiers waited as the fresh columns of Ezrian soldiers marched past, and they shamefully followed at the rear of the formation behind the catapults.

They descended the cobbled path, a fresh fighting force. They witnessed first hand the carnage that King Casimir I had wrought upon them. Their city smoldered in the although it's high walls hid what damage lay beyond it. They would have to retake the city at all costs, and already they saw what cost it had been to lose it. The Agrinan Plains were a sea of dead bodies ; Avian and Dwarf alike. To the south, where the Dwarves had surged forward from atop the huge hill called Death Trap Pass, a foreboding and remotely Dwarven fortress stood. The next move was up to the Ezrians.

Current Forces

Empire of Ezria
-- 1,500 Warriors (Elite)
-- 900 Swordsmen
-- 1,200 Skirmishers
-- 952 Light Cavalry
-- 900 Heavy Cavalry
-- 8 Catapults

Republic of Ever-Winter (inside of Agrina)
-- 211 Spearmen
-- 442 Swordsmen (Elite / Discipline)
-- 1 Battering Ram (20 Dwarves + Battering Ram)

Notes
-- It is now the end of Turn 9.
-- It is early morning.
-- Republican Reinforcements will arrive on Turn ? ? ?.
-- Ejrahkian Reinforcements will arrive on Turn 10.
